Eroticism or realism? Pornography or anatomy? You tell me. This famous picture painted in oil on canvas by Gustave Courbet in 1866 has been provocative from the very start. For a long time it was privately owned (hanging in the bedroom?), but you can now see it in Musée d’Orsay in Paris. Erotic or not, I find the view of people in the museum meticulously inspecting this painting titillating in itself. Watching the watchers.
