Fallout 2 being recreated in Fallout 4.
Damn.
I know all modern Fallout games are in first-person, so slapping it on a modern Fallout game makes sense, but…
It feels like it would be so much more appropriate for it to use Larian’s Divinity Engine (maybe the one used in DOS II, not BG3), just because it’s the classic 3/4 overhead view and then some.
I understand that you would need all new textures and models and so on, but like, it seems like a lot of work was done adding models and textures to this too, so I don’t know. I understand that it technically has the SPECIAL system built-in, but Bethesda’s SPECIAL and Black Isle’s SPECIAL are totally different beasts.
Amazing work, of course, just personal opinion in respect to overhead vs first person.
I kind of agree but…
Keep in mind this is a fan-made project and they started long before BG3 was a thing.
But yeah, the BG3’s overhead view + turn based combat would really fit here.

I mean, that’s fair, but like I said, I was really more referring to the one used in DOS II, which was out just two years after Fallout 4, and DOS I came out a year before Fallout 4. Those games just never achieved the popularity of Baldur’s Gate 3, which is more recent. However, the game engine was around, and could have been used, but it would have been a lot of work to hack it to be the SPECIAL system. Way more work than just dumping it to an existing Fallout engine.
Anyway, yeah, I’m not trying to dismiss the amazing work done here, it’s well within the realm of reason to be using Bethesda’s engines, in fact I’d say it’s the most reasonable way to approach it. I understand my opinion has nothing to do with the technical side of the project, its just a feeling of nostalgia I have for the way the originals were set up. So yeah, this is amazing work, and while it’s not my kind of thing, props to any and all who enjoy it as well as props to the hard work from the modders behind it.
There’s also the Wasteland 2/3 engine which would be a good fit. A lot of the assets from 2 would probably drop right into Fallout, given the similarity in tone and setting.
… Well, I say that, but now that I look it up, the Wasteland games used the Unity engine so… Yeah, a BG3 total conversion would be fun
I’ve seen a lot of this lately. Is it out yet and if it is where can I download this?
Please… Why would anyone remake it in first person
You’re really loosing a lot when switching from the original look
Also, original fallout’s combat is turn based, turn based is awesome, first person shooter is not awesome
