I feel like the designation should require more than a promise not to use city funds to help other states prosecute people who moved there for trans reasons. I don’t think any cities in California would be doing that anyway.

It’s a start, but we can do more.

        Expanding support programs.

Sacramento does do a lot, the Sacramento LGBT Community Center is partially city (tax payer) funded and provides a lot in the way of safe housing and essential support- if you’re under 24.

I feel like if it’s going to get the designation of Sanctuary City it should be providing targeted help to people escaping/relocating from states where their, or their children’s existence has been made illegal.

It seems like an empty accolade, since I really don’t think we would be extraditing trans folk back to hostile states anyway, but it’s nice that we’ve promised not to.

Good points. This could be something community groups could push for. I’m not too plugged into advocacy on the city council but maybe I should be.
