    The trains and buses of that era weren’t ideal for anyone. Those steps were narrow and steep even for fitter people; the disabled, the old and those with kids and prams were really challenged by these designs.

      Hannover, Germany, has a public transit system with trams similar in height of entrance, but they use platforms (mostly without stairs, AFAIK) for a level entrance.
