Stop using proprietary social media. It’s really not that hard folks. It’s like all the artists got pissed their art was being used to train AI on Instagram. Wtf did you think was going to happen? Proprietary social media is a tool the owning class uses to monetize working-class people’s content.

Tbf, artists are out making art hopefully and trying to have a life, they’re not predicting that AI would steal everything about them. Blaming artists for corporations stealing their shit isn’t cool.

lmao like Lemmy is any better. every trans related thread is filled with trans-med apologists, or straight up trans-meds. TikTok, Tumblr, honestly also YouTube… all have thriving lgbtq communities and are proprietary. I know there are def downsides and issues with data being sold, but just bc a platform isn’t propriety, that does not mean it’ll be less filled with bigoted people.

In my experience which instance you’re on (and, as a result, which instances populate your feed) heavily influences how much transmedicalism (and other bigotries) you encounter.

From what I see on your profile page, you mostly interact with lemmy.world communities. That’s the biggest instance, that received the largest influx of reddit-quitters, notably.

In case you haven’t encountered them, you might want to take a look at some of the communities hosted on lemmy.blahaj.zone.

I’ve been on many instances and have multiple accounts. Yes, I do agree it varies, but unfortunately outside the safe haven of blahaj and some leftist spaces, it’s pretty consistently bad.

The idea that people who don’t experience dysphoria or who don’t wish to fully transition aren’t actually trans. This also excludes non binary trans people.

So like “I feel like a woman inside, though I have boy parts, but I have no intention or desire to change my body” kind of thing?

The feeling like a particular gender inside is an outdated way of looking at transness. Some trans people might describe their feelings that way but it’s mostly used by cis people who try to understand being trans.

To answer your question though: gender dysphoria or euphoria does not have to be about how the body looks. Some trans people only experience it socially, which in an ideal world would mean that they didn’t have to transition.

There can also be many other reasons why a trans person wouldn’t want to transition (fully). Many trans people choose not to have bottom surgery because it’s an invasive surgery and might not be worth it to them.

To be blunt, there is way more toxicity and extreme views on Lemmy than on Reddit. I’ve seen worse things in 15 months of Lemmy than I’ve seen in 15 users of Reddit use.

I have to hard disagree. I went back to Reddit for a few days recently and the comments were a a cesspool of far-right views & alt-right views. It was like 50% off every comment section turned into r/TrueUnpopularOpinion, under any post that’s slightly political you’ll get downvoted for stating that trans people exist or that misogyny exists, and told how white people are disprivileged and discriminated against

The worst one by far though was under a pizzacake comic about how women dealing with dangerous/creepy men going after them frequently from childhood leads to them being extremely cautious/scared of men, which men then take as the woman being a bitch. You can only imagine how heated that got and the brigade of conservatives and centrists defending the conservatives lol

My feeling is Lemmy and Reddit both suck terribly. Reddit has the advantage of having more people, so left-leaning subreddits are just larger by default, and there is a higher population of people who aren’t white IT guys. Lemmy users, in my experience, are also sexist, transphobic etc, but are very eloquent about it and mods will jump on you for telling a transphobe they’re an asshole. Lemmy is up it’s ass on “civility” rules, but these are enforced unequally depending on what opinions you are sharing. Basically if you downplay genocide but say it without swearing, that is considered somehow more civil than telling transphobes to fuck off.

Just curious, are you on Hexbear? lemmy.world isn’t federated with them so you may not have seen their posts/posters. They’re pretty harsh on transphobes and are one of the best trans spaces i’ve been on.

I made an account but haven’t used it much, seemed a bit slow and I like to use Lemmy for news. I agree though, the vibe is completely different!!

Understandable, it does get a little slow at times.
