The US president Joe Biden asks at civil rights event: ‘what do you think he would have done … if Black Americans had stormed the Capitol?’

Joe Biden has launched one of his most scathing attacks yet on Donald Trump’s record of racism, suggesting that the former US president would have acted differently to the January 6 2021 insurrection if was led by Black people.

The remarks, at a dinner hosted by a civil rights organisation in a critical swing state, pointed to an intensifying battle between Biden and Trump for African American voters ahead of November’s presidential election.

“Let me ask you,” Biden said during an address to an NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) dinner in Detroit. “What do you think he would have done on January 6 if Black Americans had stormed the Capitol?”

There was a collective gasp and murmur in the cavernous convention centre, where an estimated 5,000 guests had gathered. The president insisted: “No, I’m serious. What do you think? I can only imagine.”

    You mean the white supremacist lynch mob they could have easily stopped on Jan 6th but didn’t? That one?

    The ones that will be getting out once your good cop hands over to the bad cop come November?

      Oh you mean when trump was president? Tell me how you expect Biden to have acted on his executive authority on the day he was set to be confirmed as having won his first presidential election.

      I assume you blame the 08 crash on Obama too.

        All you’re telling me is that Trump can sicc a white supremacist lynch mob on the capitol and get away with it scott free… while Biden can (supposedly) do absolutely nothing about his (yes, his) goon squads violently repressing campus protests against US policy?

        Yeah… we’re still waiting for Obama to prosecute the capitalists that crashed the economy - I guess the hundreds of billions in handouts he gave to these very same capitalists happened in order to prosecute them better, yes?
