I’m definitely liking this so far. Like Ouran before it (Haruhi is nonbinary, fight me), it’s leaving a lot of room for the story to be read as actually queer, at least so far. Mito definitely seems a bit eggy to me - I don’t really buy the “oh it’s just more convenient” reasoning for boymode-ing 24/7 for years. Similarly, Ruka’s “I just only like 2d girls” line rings a little… un-straight when he pounced on the first twink he saw after refusing to drink the blood of unattractive men. Obviously It’s playing with queer themes, but I like when these types of stories leave themselves open to a more complex reading of the characters’ genders and sexualities and don’t try to handwave the themes away in the end, and this one’s doing well with that so far.

On a different note, I had sort of assumed our whole main cast was vampires, but I guess probably not. I’m looking forward to seeing more from the rest of the boys, and I’m hoping that our b couple(?), Juri and Takara, get real development and not just fanservice teases.
