Needle use is always a touchy subject, after all, many people like myself are prescribed and depend on medication that we self-inject. So needles can’t be all that bad, right?

I mean… We’re talking illicit substances, so its all relative and you’re already probably familar with how it can wreck your veins etc. But maybe you don’t care, cause you’ve heard how much more potent it is than smoking, or for the brave, insufflation (hell has to burn less, surely). Well, if you’re ready to toss in the towel and go all the way to the needle, all I would say is: have you tried your ass?

No, seriously, have you?

When I was using, I went from snorting coke, to snorting meth (ooowei), to smoking and hotrailing. At that point, I still never wanted a needle, but my tolerance was already massive, and the willpower to stay away from it was waning. Then, after a night that began like many others of hotrails with cute twinks and transfemmes, someone (without consent) shoved some lube up in my 🌹 with a shard of meth.

Aside from the complexity of that night, I decided that would be the only way I’d ever use.

Is it safe? No, its meth…

Is it really like IV use? Studies show the differences in the bioavailability are almost imperceptible, and from the anecdotes I’ve heard, the peaks are the same, and the comedown is more tolerable when taken rectally.

And from what I saw watching dealer-friends stab away at their arms, the high takes all of 30 seconds more to reach you than IV use.

Ok, but it is going to do something worse to my butt? It could, and there are do’s and don’ts, but it’ll do much less than a needle will.

Don’t:

-use dirty water, including tap water just about everywhere.

-use a syringe that’s been used for any other reason, they’re like 10cents at walgreens brand new

Do:

-dissolve your dose in a tiny amount of distilled, or at least bottled water

-use a syringe without a needle. Diabetics, those taking HRT, MS patients etc, all need them so every pharmacy will have them. Alternatively, similar devices are made for snot removal of infants. (Slightly larger diameter, but you probably won’t mind😏)

If you’re going to re use your syringe (because someone inevitably will) isopropyl alcohol, or even hot water and standard soap will go a long way to preventing the worst from happening.

Hope this helps. I like to think it did for me. I would have had much more difficulty achieving my 2years this month had I shot up instead.

Stay safe!

Hey could you make a post on HIV prevention and what to do if you get it? I’ll crosspost it to c/trans if you do.

I’ll do one about diseases that can be transmitted through less safe useage practices in general. I don’t feel I have anything to contribute in the way of HIV transmission and drug use that hasn’t been said before.

I may also do one about activities often associated with drug use, especially in the non-straight/cis community, and how to best avoid catching something.
