There is not a single reason for any human to get access to alcohol to drink.
Edit 1:
Just to add the people who say that banning does not work is like saying banning guns does not work because people is going to find a way to get them or like saying we should not have speed limits because it does not prevent people from speeding. (Their opinions does not make sense to me)
Thank you for sharing your experience. I just made a similar comment.
Alcohol nearly killed me, lost me a career, nearly lost me my marriage. My brother is totally zombified by alcohol, and also a lot of people who used to be my friends. It’s basically like watching late-stage opioid addicts on the street, except that alcohol is even worse in a way because it’s socially acceptable and even encouraged. My grandpa died of alcohol related illness, and I’ve watched so many people descend into the depths of despair because of alcohol. It’s 100% a horrible, horrible drug.
But I agree with you that banning it is not the answer. I actually believe in decriminalizing all drugs because the war on drugs has been an utter failure and has only managed to ruin lives even more.
I think education is the answer. We need to make people more aware of how destructive alcohol really is, and make them see that anyone can become an addict/alcoholic. None of us is immune, and the people who say “not me” are probably the most likely people to gradually descend to where I was before I got sober. I know because I was one of them, and I’ve seen the same story play out over and over and over again with people I know, to the point that it’s nearly consumed my entire social circle.
