    Wait, who actually claimed that EVs would do anything about “energy” or “traffic” problems? I was on board until here. The goal of EVs is to reduce usage of fossil fuels. That’s it.

      The goal of EVs is to reduce usage of fossil fuels.

      For that to be meaningful at all you have to change the source of the energy, not the thing using the energy.

      If you’re charging your EV from a coal-fired power plant, you’re technically not doing jack-shit to alleviate the use of fossil fuels, you’re just shifting it from one shitty power source to another.

      While we have been pushing renewable energy in the US, we’ve not done near as much as is needed, and a lot of places continue to reject it outright, meaning depending on where you live, EV’s may not actually be reducing the fossil fuel load dramatically. We’re still not meeting current emissions targets with this.

      Further, EVs account for increased particulate pollution from the excessive wear on their tires.
