Got in our first game of Waypoints. Fun little roll and write. A lot to wrap your head around. Some of the scoring conditions are a little tricky. Had a good time though. May take it on an upcoming trip.

    Don’t quite get it…

Is it something like geohashing on a physical map?

What are the symbols for? (I guess you didn’t actually encounter 20 bears?)

You’re going on a series of four “hikes”. You roll to determine how many grid/elevation lines you can cross in a turn. You have to end your turn on a waypoint. If you can’t, you can rest and earn a water bottle which will let you add one additional line cross in a later turn. The different spots enable scoring/abilities. So by the end you’ve wandered over the map and hopefully accrued some points.

Yeah. No actual hiking. We just have a trip coming up and this is compact enough that it would be fun to take along. Sorry for the confusion. 🙂

          • No, my fault, I only knew such stuff with real maps up to now.

E.g. a local natural park did something really similar, adding a bunch of plant and animal pictograms to their map as a mini game. You had to count how many you saw. Did really help to not letting the kids get bored during the hike.

And also there is geohashing which is kind of a “roll your destination” game…
