It’s easy to see in hindsight but summer 2014 was a watershed moment in history.
Both gamergate and the downing of MH17 and subsequent Russian disinformation campaign were the dress rehersal for the things that happened in the last decade.
Whether we’re talking Brexit, the Trump presidency or current state of the war in Ukraine, many of the threads connect back to then.
Even then the right wing influence was clear, that’s not just hindsight. What was surprising to me was how susceptible people are to it. They didn’t care of the Russians or anyone else were behind it. This was a misogynistic hoax from the get-go, they just agreed with it
Oh yeah, it was obvious that it was a right wing influence campaign. It was not obvious it would go on dominate western politics for at least a decade.
