The Biden administration has skirted Congress to rush weapons to Israel and shielded its ally from international calls for a cease-fire in the four months since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack that triggered the war. But the White House has also urged Israel to take greater measures to avoid harming civilians and to facilitate the delivery of more aid to besieged Gaza.

Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s national security minister, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal said Biden was hindering Israel’s war effort.

“Instead of giving us his full backing, Biden is busy with giving humanitarian aid and fuel (to Gaza), which goes to Hamas,” Ben-Gvir said. “If Trump was in power, the U.S. conduct would be completely different.”

The US needs to condemn Israel because of the atrocities it’s committing - the fact that those haven’t been convincing enough is horrific. And the idea of hoping for a reactionary policy change because a single poor excuse for a human being was showboating? Somehow that’s even more terrifying than just having a military-industrial economy making strategic genocide-supporting decisions.

Perpetual war is how the US maintains hegemony. They have no interest in stopping Israel, because it both pays the US ruling class and keeps the wealthy Islamic nations busy spending money on keeping their own people alive and borders intact. If you and other Americans want your government to condemn genocide, you’re going to have to do more than hope Ben-Gvir is irritating enough. Because the entire US economy banks on this continuing.

When? How? Would he do that to boost trump? To make the dude right? The US is too tied in to Israel to do anything. You’ve been sending them free money for years - you think they can stop??

Yes, I guarantee you that the Israelis would absolutely prefer Trump over Biden.

Trump moved the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. That was America directly provoking Palestinians. It was also exactly what Israel wanted.

I’m not saying Biden is Israel’s enemy or anything, but it’s the difference between kissing an ass and sticking your tongue right up the rectum.

And if we are lucky, between this and the increasing American public’s distaste for Israel’s war, Biden might actually at least try to do something.

I’m not arguing on who’s their best friend, just saying that they have done this for decades already and you’ve still sent them foreign aid - like 300bn usd so far, starting in 1946. And like I said I can’t see how he can or will reverse even if they shit on his food. All his “bombs for kids” programme will be a huge mistake - a looser

Probably - I don’t know how that part works. I just see a man loosing a lot of face doing it. Killing kids at ok - he still sends ammo. Israel will keep on insulting you and you will pay them. And you will send weapons. And possibly send more guys to the Middle East rather than pull out of Syria and Iraq

Broadly, the poll shows support for Israel and the Biden administration’s handling of the situation ebbing slightly further across the board. The poll shows 31% of U.S. adults approve of Biden’s handling of the conflict, including just 46% of Democrats. That’s as an earlier spike in support for Israel following the Hamas attacks Oct. 7 sags.

                It’s an election year.

It is - and my reasoning is that it will hurt him more and boost trump more - than just keep going as is.

If you can pick between the one that sends money and the one that will send money, it’s same-same so no downside for Biden.

I don’t follow your politics closely, but I think your budgeting on that for 2025 starts in a month. And that the previous one (2024) was approved in autumn 2023

Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s national security minister, who was literally convicted of supporting terrorists. For some reason my search of the article gets no hits for “terror” or “convicted”. Instead he’s just “far-right”.

    Itamar Ben-Gvir is a terrorist.

One of the people in the mix for a top slot is Itamar Ben-Gvir, set to be named national security minister — a job that could include overseeing some police activity in the occupied West Bank, which is home to millions of Palestinians. Ben-Gvir has previously been convicted of racist incitement against Arabs and of backing a terrorist group.

On one hand, I hope that he becomes rude to Biden to the point that the US withdraws support. On the other hand, he knows that his commentary boosts Trump voters, which could lead to Biden having to bite his tongue, or edge a Trump win. This is an increasingly crap time on earth.

Ben-Gvir will be removed from the cabinet before anyone allows him to seriously jeopardize Israel’s relationship with the US. There is far too much money at stake.

Biden will support Israel no matter what, he’s been saying it publicly for 60 years, so Israel doesn’t give two shits about Biden.

Take every bit of aid and weaponry currently going to Israel and Egypt and give it to the Palestinians. Only then will Israel learn how to negotiate.
