Part 2 with Jason Pargin
They bring up in the first 5 minutes of part one that the wikipedia entry is extremely short and does not do America’s deadliest workplace disaster justice.
I wanted to link The Book of the Dead by Muriel Rukeyser they mentioned as their major source but I could not find a free digital copy other than an ASMR reading.
I wouldn’t mind such a long podcast if they didn’t add so much filler. It took me 3 minutes in real time to find a keyword about the disaster I could search for online. Additionally, the site does not seem to allow downloads – not easily, at least – or some kind of Sponsorblock. Even long-form YouTubers like Bobby Broccoli keep their stories information-dense because they know their watch time ratio could get eroded by people skipping filler manually or automatically.
Okay, well clearly this isn’t the podcast for you. The whole point of it is it’s long form with periods of filler for entertainment. Also I’m an adblock person all day long but it takes no effort to fast forward, podcast apps have a 30 second skip button. I’m not linking to where I think you should listen to it, just simply to the website where it’s officially hosted. You can download it off any other podcast app.
Well, I didn’t find the filler entertaining. Also, you cannot easily skip it if there are no markers on the timeline, it takes up to several seconds to figure out if what you’re listening to is still filler or back to content.
