It’s bizarre and kinda funny that they made offline mode only available for Steam Deck users.

It actually does, funnily enough. You have to set an environment variable for it to work though.

      Here’s a Steam guide.

Now the question is: are they going to be complete assholes and change this check to prevent non Deck players from using it or not?

Doubtful they’ll sabotage it, the guide indicates the fix is from Activision, with guides for non-steamdeck configuration on linux and windows.

The environment variable is the official way to check for Steam Deck. Other tricks may break on Proton updates.

Someone in that thread posted a guide for getting it working on Linux and Windows without being online.

This game was an epic games exclusive. Consider skipping it or acquiring it through other means

Why? The fact that people are buying it now that it is on Steam already gives the message they didn’t want to buy it when it was an Epic exclusive. If people don’t buy it on Steam after it’s available then it doesn’t encourage devs/publishers to release on Steam at all either.

It gives the message that publishers can take the Epic money for a timed exclusive, face no backlash or consequences and get the money from other customers as well on other storefronts.

Buying it on Steam after the epic exclusivity rewards the developers/publishers for their anti-consumer behavior. This double-dipping practice is greedy and I personally won’t purchase any game that’s ever been epic exclusive

Huh, on steam deck huh…well fuck I may buy it again because I don’t see myself plugging in and turning on my Xbox one to enjoy the game again.
