Kevin McCarthy was behind interim Speaker Patrick McHenry’s move to kick former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former Majority Leader Steny Hoyer out of their office spaces, two Republican sources told CNN.

GOP Rep. Garret Graves told reporters on Wednesday that McCarthy is getting the office that McHenry has ordered her to vacate.

“Look the deal is that the office that Pelosi is in right now is the office of the preceding speaker. Speaker Pelosi and other Democrats determined that they wanted a new … speaker, and it’s Kevin McCarthy. So, he’s getting the office,” he said.

Sources close to Pelosi and Hoyer say it was retaliation for Democrats siding against McCarthy in voting to vacate the speaker’s chair Tuesday. The unofficial offices are located near the House floor.

McCarthy and McHenry’s did not respond to requests for comment.

Huh? How does this make any sense?

There’s a number of unlisted offices that can be assigned to various people who need them… the complex is large.

    And Hoyer wasn’t ever Speaker so… ?

I guess offices were left empty since Ryan resigned rather than stay as a Member?

Also blaming the Democratic members for the Republican party pushing through rules that allowed one of their more insane to issue the removal vote, and that it was Republicans that spoke in the debate and then basically removed him…

    It’s petty madness.

These offices aren’t their actual offices, those are in a different building. These additional spaces have been described as “hideaway” offices, right in the Capitol, where a small group of people can have a quick, private chat while still being close to the House chamber.

I doubt Pelosi was really expecting to keep that space, to be honest. But she was probably not expecting to leave until a new Speaker was chosen. (And it is certainly bad optics to kick her out of the space while she was away at Feinstein’s funeral…)

They will straight punch someone in the face, turn around and blame the democrats for it. They even stopped being subtle about it and they don’t care because there aren’t consequences for their constant lies. As long as their base eats it up and elects them and you know those fox brainwashed fuckers will vote for them no matter what.

Look the deal is that the office that Pelosi is in right now is the office of the preceding speaker.

If you want to be extremely generous, you could say this is the point. Pelosi is no longer the preceding Speaker, and so if this office is traditionally used by the most recent former Speaker, it’d make sense that she’d have to give it up sooner or later.

    However, this

Speaker Pelosi and other Democrats determined that they wanted a new … speaker, and it’s Kevin McCarthy.

as well as moving Hoyer, is how you know it’s purely performative whining. The Democrats didn’t introduce the resolution to remove McCarthy and they didn’t give speeches as to why he should be removed, Republicans did. McCarthy chose to break his deal with the Dems from May and chose to forego any bipartisan help against Gaetz’ resolution. This is just the GOP lashing out at the Dems because the 11th commandment forbids them from punishing the members of their own ranks who are truly responsible.

im not sure of this interpretation as well. usually the last speaker is from the other party so its actually usually a high figure from the other party more akin to a shadow cabinet type of thing. EDITED to explain intention to folks that don’t know. In a parliment the minority party has folks in place who would do the jobs of the various ministers if they were in charge. So they sorta shadow the actual ministers. This is so that if a change of government happens they are ready to take on the responsibilities.

“Wanted” is being used a little loosely these days.

If the worst Republicans did was be impolite this would be a warranted news story, but it’s not so this is just a big fucking distraction from Republicans once again falling apart and endangering the country. The more Democrats (Pelosi mainly) play into this, the more it feels like politics is just petty squabbles between egotistical people. Send an aide to pack and clean the office, don’t pretend like this is some big issue. Republicans just fired their own speaker, are considering two manifestly unfit replacements, and will shut down the government if they can’t figure out how to govern in the next 40 days. Don’t interrupt your opponents when they’re in the middle of making clowns of themselves.

Nancy Pelosi may have been able to count votes well, her ego is frequently a drag on the party and we’d be better off if she’d just retire already.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday said the newly named interim speaker, GOP Rep. Patrick McHenry of North Carolina, has ordered her to vacate her office in the Capitol building.

“With all of the important decisions that the new Republican Leadership must address, which we are all eagerly awaiting, one of the first actions taken by the new Speaker Pro Tempore was to order me to immediately vacate my office in the Capitol,” the California Democrat said.

“Sadly, because I am in California to mourn the loss of and pay tribute to my dear friend Dianne Feinstein, I am unable to retrieve my belongings at this time.”

She will lie in state at San Francisco City Hall on Wednesday ahead of funeral services Thursday.

Kevin McCarthy as speaker was required to submit a confidential list to the clerk of people “in the order in which each shall act as Speaker pro tempore in the case of a vacancy,” according to House rules.

McHenry, a strong ally of McCarthy, was the top name on that list.

I don’t care about Pelosi’s office at all. AFAIAC, most of the Democrats are far too comfortable around the #fascist #GOP.

Makes sense - it’s the only office in the capitol their constituents know how to navigate to.
