FCC announces plans to reinstate net neutrality::After a long battle and eventual defeat, the FCC is set to reinstate rules that broadband providers must treat all internet traffic equally.
Good, now reclassify net access as a utility.
And let’s get some publicity owned net service to compete with these greedy fucking ISPs.
Hopefully with net neutrality, we won’t have an Amtrak situation.
Would really like to have some high speed rail, damnit. Stupid business butting in the way of that, too.
My local power company operates as a co-op utility company and ISP that runs gigabit fiber to my curb. <$100/month. Community owned utilities can be amazing when done right.

Net neutrality was not defeated, it was changed by regulatory capture and a lying ass lying Adjit Pai, a scumbag corporate lawyer for Verizon before he was in the FCC. The public overwhelmingly wanted no part of it but he did it anyway.
You might say he took Adjit on it.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
In a fact sheet shared online, Rosenworcel said that the FCC “seeks to largely return to the successful rules the Commission adopted in 2015,” which would classify broadband as essential on a par with water, power and phone service.
As a quick refresher, net neutrality is the principle that internet providers — mobile or “fixed” like fiber — should act as simple pipes for data, not performing any analysis or prioritization beyond what is required to ensure good service.
Some data must be prioritized due to the way networks function, of course, but it would be wrong (and illegal under net neutrality) for, say, Comcast to throttle the streaming services of its competitors while giving its own an advantage.
Although behavior that egregious was not particularly common, it had occurred, and non-neutral practices were gaining ground rebranded as “zero rating,” ostensibly a special deal for consumers where some streaming services didn’t count toward bandwidth caps.
Tom Wheeler, one of the architects of the net neutrality rule, gave over chairmanship to Ajit Pai, who made no secret of his intention to make overturning it a priority.
Now Rosenworcel, likely armed with an improved order that addresses any loose threads hanging off the last one, is in a fair position to establish net neutrality in a more permanent way.
The original article contains 731 words, the summary contains 217 words. Saved 70%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
Trump was biggest and most useless piece of shit president in the history of ever that added zero benefit to the USA and I will forever be embarrassed in my fellow citizens for ever voting for that piece of shit.
Couple weeks ago all the top comments were saying the new FCC board wouldn’t do this because Biden is such a corporate moderate.
Yes he’s a moderate by many standards. And sure he’s a a corporate backed dem(there’s no escaping the need for big donors especially after Citizens United ruling). But: This is an easy win for them, and it was part of their campaign platform. Of course they’re immediately going to do it.
Aaaand it’s dead again.
Lol
Since net neutrality was repealed Comcast hasn’t let me torrent anything faster than a few hundred kbps, even on Linux ISOs. I had to get a VPN just for that.
