And everyone posting attention to some millionaires in their submarine doing this as an option instead of as a need to get a better life, escape hunger or poverty.
Possible rescue story is more interesting than hundreds dead. It’s sad but we hear about death all the time at this point.
TBF the boat disaster could have been a rescue story as well if someone cared enough. There are two major countries naval fleets in the Atlantic, whereas the story is much different in the Mediterranean.
The Greek Coast Gaurd literally watched them die
I think it’s also because the news heavily cares about how different and interesting a story is. The sub story:
- Is just weird and different. Boats sinking happens all the time, but disappearing subs is rare and unusual. It’s like how car crashes will barely get any attention but plain crashes will.
- The fact that the sub is still out there makes for a continuing story to report. There’s also the mystery element of “what went wrong?” I see a parallel to MH370, that plane that mysteriously vanished over the ocean a few years ago.
- It gets to prey more heavily on people’s fear. Being on a sinking boat is scary, but there’s something even scarier about being in a stuck sub that can’t even be easily reached and has no possibility of escape from.

Honestly this sort of smug superiority cloaked in a thousand years of oppression is so fucking obnoxious.
Why is Europe so rich? What allows you to afford those social systems? Could it have been the systematic pillaging of the economies of the places whose refugees you now so smugly ‘decline’ helping.
The way you frame keeping people from dying at sea as some great burden to the state is fucking disgusting.
You fucking disgust me, frankly.
You have to admit it is more complicated than that though. It’s more complicated than jas describes too.
Is enabling people trafficking by having a fleet of boats hanging out on the libian coast really going to save more people than ending the practice all together?
It’s absolutely true that countless other things should be done to help the poor around the world, but I genuinely don’t see how encouraging masses of people to set out to sea in sinking boats helps anything at all?

Jesus Christ I actually hate you. This smug, know-nothing (in every sense) bullshit is why everyone hates Europeans.
Literal white supremacist talking points, too. So that’s cool.
Europe invents fascism, racism, homophobia, has nonstop wars for thousands of years, still has kings but y’all motherfuckers try to pretend you’re the bastion of all that’s good in the world.
Fuck. Off.

Make like your leader fascist scum
Capitalism at its finest
Honestly packing that many people on a boat is the same level of stupidity as a billionaire making his own submarine from parts he got at Home Depot then dying in it after repeated warnings…

From what I have read, most Pakistanis were forced to the bottom. Looks like human traffickers are also racist. Who would have known!
300 Pakistanis capsize, the world: “I sleep”
3 billionaires and a con man build world worst submarine and sink, the world: “Real shit.”
Clown world.
The article doesn’t say they were illegal immigrants, did you make that part up?
Greek here, they were illegal immigrants. They were helpless people in a boat with a broken engine. They were people fleeing from a war. They were people that didn’t ask for help fearing pushbacks, concetration camps, and police abuse. They were people the coast guard stood and watched them die for 3 days.

It’s not illegal to flee a war.
but it is illegal to enter a country without coming through customs, which is exactly what happened
It certainly implied it :
The chairman of of Pakistan’s Senate, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, disclosed the numbers in a statement Sunday, sending condolences to grieving families of the dead. “Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we pray that the departed souls find eternal peace,” Sanjrani said. “This devastating incident underscores the urgent need to address and condemn the abhorrent act of illegal human trafficking.”
Human trafficking is illegal but is not illegal to seek asylum.
I know and I agree. Thats why I left it at “implied”.
