I mean a stopped clock and all… but even though it is likely the right call, it’s taken significantly longer than it should have done. Almost as if they’d commissioned a survey looking for an easy, popular policy to implement that might give the superficial impression that she has feelings.

Normally the English have more fun elegant names. I guess the need to make it sound foreign so they could be more xenophobic and hateful about it took priority.

Oh come on! Actually just last week I was looking for ratchet straps for my trailer. On Amazon UK they’re a choice of " Ratchet straps 3 ton, 4 mètre", “Lorry ties 5 ton, 6 mètre” etc etc

Accidentally clicked on amazon.com and suddenly they’re “Patriot Maurader ratchet tactical straps 7 million ton” and “Screeching Eagle Parabellum Hellfire Military anti-gravity staionaryizers”

        It was fuckin infantile 😂

As mentioned in the article the American Bully XL isn’t a recognised breed, so the name likely came from the owners themselves making it up.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Suella Braverman is pushing for a ban on American bully XL dogs, arguing they are a “clear and lethal danger”, particularly to children.

The home secretary announced she has commissioned urgent advice on outlawing the dogs after she highlighted an “appalling” attack on an 11-year-old girl in Birmingham.

Braverman seized on news that West Midlands police were investigating after the girl and two men who intervened were injured in the incident in the Bordesley Green area on Saturday.

Emma Whitfield, the mother of 10-year-old Jack Lis, who died after being mauled by an American bully in Caerphilly, south Wales, has been calling for a change in the law.

John Hayes, a close ally of Braverman, has been pushing in the House of Commons for a ban on the dog he has claimed is “bred to kill”.

There are four banned breeds of dog in the UK: the pit bull terrier, Japanese tosa, dogo Argentino and fila Brasileiro.

The original article contains 449 words, the summary contains 157 words. Saved 65%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!

Ok… that study is a survey of asking dog owners if their dogs are good dogs. Wouldn’t the results be heavily biased? I would think most owners would say their dog has good behavior but who knows if that’s actually true without actual monitoring?

TBF I do think there’s a cultural aspect. If you search for ‘XL bully’ half the video results are about how to get your bully XL dog to build muscle mass and look intimidating. It seems people that are attracted to that breed are so because they desire (at least on some level) to have a dangerous looking dog, and actively work to make the dog fit the role.

I’m unsure how you address that behaviour, but it is a problem.

Make dog licenses a thing and enforce it? Remove and destroy unlicensed/illegal animals. Thoroughly vet (no pun intended) would-be dog breeders and licence them with a hefty fee. Personally I am against all breeding - animals are not here for us to modify as want or to be sold for profit. But I do accept there are certain breeds that are better for rescue/guide dogs/security. Anyone caught after that banned for life from keeping pets.

Never going to happen though - governments don’t have the backbone, finances or resources. Easier to knock out few sound bites to keep the proles happy (like Tony Blair did when he told us he would ban hunting with dogs) then casually forget it and move onto the next popular thing.

Thia is Braverman chasing a sound bite home sec has no power to ban a breed she needs to talk to DEFRA who do have that power.
