Seems trading Lance is on the table, but I’m not sure he’d fetch much, and definitely nothing close to what the 49ers gave up for him.

Goddamn. Did the injury ruin him, or did he just get genuinely outperformed by Sam Darnold?

    The Niners better hope Purdy isn’t a one-year wonder… Otherwise, they’re screwed.

I don’t know, Sam Darnold had some positive traits and needed a fresh start. Maybe in Shanahan’s system he’ll look awesome if (when?) Purdy goes down.

Hard to not to look good in Shanahan’s system. As we’ve seen, any qb can be over 10 wins just by the rest of the team doing what they do

Yes, shanahan’s system is great. Until you need to run the ball to win a Superbowl. Then you throw it 69 times until the clock hits 4:20 and then blaze it out of town and escape all blame for the implosion.

I think part of the issue is hes lost confidence IMO. Lance looks like he throws scared when on the field, and the injury moght have put the fear deep in him.

He’s thrown so few passes in his life that it’s understandable that he doesn’t have the strongest confidence. I think there was a stat that Lance threw fewer passes between high school, college, and the NFL than Brady did a few years ago in one season.

Doesn’t help in that regard that the team basically treated him like old news the moment he got injured. I just feel like after that the team pretty much already decided to move on from him and everything to this point was just to try to raise his trade value. Hard to have confidence in yourself when your team has shown it has no confidence in you.

Sam Darnold not long ago was considered a top NFL prospect. So was Trey Lance. Neither has done much to prove themselves yet. Other than a sunk cost phallacy there’s no reason to treat them differently. Lance didn’t really look good last year and looks worse coming back this year. He either needs development or is a bust. Neither of which should get him any special treatment.

Also, knowing the 49ers QB trends they should keep all three. They’ll probably all get starts again. They must be storing desecrated indian bones in the QB meeting room or something.

What a busted pick Lance turned out to be. I hope he can find a second life on another team, but I also don’t find it very likely…

I want them to trade Lance for Kyler Murray. That way, the 49ers will have a first-overall draft pick and a last-overall draft pick in their quarterback room.
