The makers of Spam, saying that their “special relationship with the Hawaiian community spans decades,” have donated over 264,000 cans to aid the disaster-relief efforts on Maui, the company said in a press release.
Pacific Islanders are crazy about Spam. I believe it comes from WWII. But they have all kinds of Spam recipes and they’re way into it, so good for Hormel.
I knew a lot of people from Hawaii love spam but I never knew why…

If you have it prepared correctly it’s actually quite good. But prepared badly and it’s really really bad.
With the same idea country music is surprisingly very popular in some bar of the Caribbean island of St Lucia. But only country music from the 40-50s era.
As you can guess there was a US military base on the island around this period. The military left but people continued to play the same music in the bars.
Spam is legit delicious when done right
How does one mess up Spam? Unless you eat it straight out of the can?
grab a spoon and eat it out of the can like it was a little tub of ice cream… wtf is wrong with that?
spoon?
No, a little spoon. Like the kind for ice cream samples.
Sir, put the tub down and move away slowly or we will shoot!
ookay, ookay… no need to get violent here. there’s plenty to go around! enjoy!
A little tub?! You need the big tub. You just messed it up.

Microwaves mess up basically any food
they’re good at steaming vegetables tho
I do like the steam in bag option, but otherwise find rice cooker to be my normal steamer.
Not leftovers.
Try ovening some leftovers and you’ll feel like iron chef.
I would say yes.
I usually eat with carbs - like bread or some sort of rice. LOL They have the “less sodium” version now.
Oh… oh god that sounds awful.
Next time pop it out of the can. Slice into 1cm or so slices. Eat on a slightly toasted bun with cheese, a nice strong mustard, and onion.
Or cut it into 1.5cm cubes. Toss in hot oil with some seasoning and stir fry rice into it.
The secret to spam is to brown it up. It’s still salty, but that’s part of the point. Spam musubi is a common thing, too.
Slice and fry. I make fried rice with it fairly often - the rice helps with the salt.
I’ve met someone who swore it was terrible. They didn’t realize that people fried it up first. They’d been trying to eat sliced spam sandwiches straight from the can.
To all the mainland people: fry some Spam with shoyu and add some rice for the real ono kine grindz
I like to make fried rice with spam. But recently I found out that spam is $6.30aud it was cheaper to buy diced bacon than spam. Like… it’s spam! Come on.
I had a spam and eggs rice bowl that killed. So good
Never thought I’d read the phrase “beloved canned meat” but here we are
It’s pretty popular in Hawaii.
I have a Hawaiian BBQ place near me that has tons of meals that include fried spam. It’s freaking amazing.
Spam musubi (which is basically spam teriyaki in a flat rice ball) is delicious. I was surprised, as someone who had never had spam before but always heard it being ridiculed.
Dare I say - beloved?
(Gasp) they don’t like spam???..
SpAM SpaM SPaM sPaM!!..
The Filipino in me is going crazy rn
Uhhmm this could be one of two scenarios…
People in Hawaii are deadly serious about their Spam. It is a high-theft item so places like Walmart typically lock them up.
Spams decades
Thank you that was really bothering me.
Comment I was hoping for. Missed opportunity on their part XD But Spam being bros either way.
Spam musubi is the shit!
Hell, I need to try it with Lao sticky rice.
they are spamming their product… for a good cause of course
