Great moments in American public oratory:

“I regret that I have but one life to give for my country” – Nathan Hale, 1776

“As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master. This expresses my idea of democracy. Whatever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is no democracy.” – Abraham Lincoln, 1858

“The money changers have fled from their high seats in the temple of our civilization. We may now restore that temple to the ancient truths. The measure of the restoration lies in the extent to which we apply social values more noble than mere monetary profit.” – Franklin Roosevelt, 1933

“Enough using the Black Sea as blackmail” – Anthony Blinken, 2023

Well these politicians are just talking heads set up by the ruling class to fool the proles into thinking they have a voice. And just like every other commodified product, you wouldn’t want to spend more on production than you absolutely have to. Make em cheap, make a lot and then cash out on marketing.

I wonder if this war will be viewed as an extension of the 19th century western European powers trying as hard as possible to prevent Russia from obtaining a warm water port in the Black Sea?

It feels almost like the west’s goals towards modern Russia are just ones they pulled out of the archives that they left there in 1917.
