The charges follow an investigation by The Associated Press linking some of the deputies to at least four violent encounters with Black men since 2019 that left two dead and another with lasting injuries. Law enforcement officers are seldom charged for crimes committed on the job, and it is rarer still for them to plead guilty.

Five deputies from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, some of whom called themselves “the Goon Squad,” and an officer from the Richland Police Department admitted to taking part in a racist assault against Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Terrel Parker. The men never thought their abusers would pay for their crimes.

    whodathunkit…

My wife’s maternal side of her family is all from Mississippi. I was blown away the first time I traveled up there to meet them all. They all seemed like the nicest, warmest people you could meet. Welcomed me into their family with open arms. We had a big meal, and afterwards we were all gathered around just shooting the breeze and the subject of conversation moved to how they all used to torment black people back in the good ol’ days. N-words as far as the ear could hear, and uproarious laughter filled the room. This was about the time I started spending all my time outside smoking. I couldn’t wait to GTFO of there…

These kinds of “rogue groups” are everywhere and it’s terrifying. This kind of stuff should be unacceptable, but cops somehow almost always get away with it. Even if they don’t, they simply change to another city.

Every time I see a cop, it makes me a bit worried about what they might do. I move away from them as quick, but as inconspicuously as possible. Cops aren’t there to protect us. They’re there to punish whomever they deem fit.

Should have just let the south go… but I suppose we had to end the slavery as slowly as we could. They could be the southern United States and I would have a problem with it.
