I would recommend looking at:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriageable_age
Then sort the table by gender and with/without parental/judicial consent and you will note that with the exception of straight up theocracies and despotic regimes there isnt a clear pattern on religion.
I think under authoritarian regimes women suffer disproportionately and massively would be a better pattern. We can have a discussion on why islamic majority countries have greater representation on the authoritarian scale but that’s a lot more complex.
Interesting point. I looked into it a bit more.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_by_country
You can sort that list by Muslim population.
The top one, Pakistan had a minimum marriage age of 18M/16F but recently changed it to 18 across the board.
Indonesia is at 21M/19F.
India has 21M/18F.
Bangladesh is 21M/18F.
Nigeria is 18+.It looks like when a bunch of Muslims get together the trend is that they reject child marriage and enshrine that rejection in law.
For sure. When Muslims are allowed to make the decision, the majority seems to always oppose child marriage.
When you have authoritarians make the decision, they concentrate power in as few people as possible and women always suffer.
I’m what one might call an anarchist (kind of) so maybe we take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Yeah, that’s pretty Aladeen.
Other religions marry children too. There was an Orthodox Jewish sect in Canada called Lev Tahor who were known for it, and CPS apprehended several children from them, for example. They fled to Guatemala and Mexico.
The US has plenty of scattered Christian sects that condone and organize child marriage. Warren Jeffs’ case was a particularly mediatic one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Jeffs
“No no no no! Even though Islam promotes pedophilia, no one is actually a pedophile because people ‘know’ better! Trust us bro”
Christianity?
Pretty sure that phenomenon is called “Conservatism.”
