I wrote it in German and I’ll repeat it here. The headlines are misleading.

The youth did not turn to the (extreme) right.

There was a shift to the (moderate and extreme) right bloc across all ages. This is within the typical range for Germany. (Throughout history, the left did not win many elections.)

And there was a shift inside the right bloc to the extreme. This is somewhat unusual, but again, it happened throughout all ages. It’s not young people.

In fact, the youngest voter group gave fewer votes to the right than any other group. (However, they also did not vote for greens as much as five years ago.)

The Nazi parties only win if we let them steal the media narrative.

Maybe left-leaning fuckers can at least try to understand why youth are turning to the right instead of demonizing them?

Because they’re manipulated? Because they like easy solutions to complex problems? Because they like to close their eyes and imagine that every can stay the same? Because neoliberal and conservative politicians fucked the lower and middle class while blaming the left (who for the most part weren’t even in power) and immigrants? Because German education has neglected teaching critical thinking skills and streamline education to just provide economic value?

Time and time again anti-immigrant tendencies are highest in areas with the lowest amount of immigrants (see the east of Germany). It’s just easy to hate people you don’t know…

I mean it seems like mostly media exaggeration and bad stats. These people are counting illegal immigration and illegal stay in their crime stats, which is… uh… an interesting proposition.

Reach out to the young. Participate and volunteer in youth organisations to help teach them a little bit about society, history and politics at large - and take the academic, pedagogic route goddamn it. Be the wise man, or wise woman, or wise trans, or wise doggy…

“Oh wise one, what is your wisdom?”

Not me though. I’m far to gone to do any of that. I’d probably radicalise them in a different direction, unintentionally.

“Yeah, they’re libertarian comminists now for some reason - I dunno wtf I did”

I expect a somewhat more material and psychological explanation for political tendencies than, “here are their slogans that they repeat to us” lol
