You will no longer be able to watch F1TV Pro from countered where it is unavailable, using a VPN. For example, the UK. You will instead see an error about your geographical location.

Confirmed, just tried with 2 different VPN providers and cannot access last weeks race replay now.

It honestly baffles me how blind sky and f1 are to how damaging this shit is to the sport. Now instead of getting 4-6 subscriptions within my circle of friends they will get 0 and we will all go back to pirate streams.

They will sleep just fine in their mansions tonight.

Exclusive broadcast rights will cease to be a thing when consumers stop participating and watching these broadcasts, but most are unwilling to cease consuming the content long enough to have an impact on the bottom line which is the only thing they care about.

They’ve killed so much sport by shoving it behind a paywall.

Can’t remember the last time I’ve seen any kids play cricket in the local park. Used to be rife, back in the day.

Probably doesn’t help that crickets rules are so convoluted lol then again I’m American so it’s not like anyone here has ever even thought to try cricket

I was never able to watch the races live, I just wanted to watch the full race replay after the kids had gone to bed. I did it for one season with f1tv and a VPN, and then aborted and started picking up the Torrents of the race about 15mins of the race finishing, ready for when I wanted to watch on my Plex instance.

I got the cheaper F1 subscription for exactly this purpose as well.

However, they put a 48h delay on replay availability in my location, so I was forced to upgrade.

Now that they’re hosting more events in countries with very questionable human and social rights (many nations in the Middle East and one in the Americas), I’ve decided to stop supporting F1 directly and I’m spending the money on tickets to my local GP and pirating the rest of the season.

I’ve always wondering how long it would be before the replays are watchable after the race, I hardly ever watch the races live so was tempted by the lower tier F1TV subscription. But 48 hours? Fuck that, I’ll remain a pirate.

Exactly what I’m doing. The only way I watch F1 is through torrents and whatever they post on their youtube channel. I don’t have the money for the subscription, and god knows they have enough billionaires involved in the sport that they don’t need my money too.

This is upsetting. Been using IPTV to watch and was thinking of trying f1tv pro instead but that’s now out of the question. I refuse to pay the £30 a month (or whatever it is) for sky sports, then the additional £15 for F1 when all I watch is F1!!

    F

Being Uk based and refusing to pay for sky I subbed to F1TV and have been watching races via VPN. Whilst I know it was against TOS it’s still shit to loose access to live races on my Apple TV of iPad.

It was painful watching live streams full of adverts or especially as I tend to use an iPad and not a computer browser.

    Annoying change.

Those using Mullvad should email support@mullvad.net Their staff found a server that worked and loaded up last week’s race just fine. Not posting which server on here, I got a reply to my support request within the hour.

Funny enough, I got lucky and could subscribe, I guess because I had VPN on. However, I cannot watch with VPN on, I get this region warning, but without it just works fine.

Cross fingers for me that it will stay that way. I won’t go to sky even if that means I cannot watch my sport any longer.

FYI ControlD works to get around this restriction, no VPN needed. Tested on Hungary race replay and that loaded up just fine from an Australian IP (pro is blocked downunder).

Cheers. Could you possibly give a quick explanation oh how you set it up? I’ve taken a look at it and I’m confused. Haha.

Don’t wanna pay for it if I’m not gonna be able to use it.

I think it’s this service https://controld.com/ it uses DNS to make it seem like your IP is something different to external parties without connecting to another machine/service to route your traffic through. In theory, much faster than VPN in some cases… nice

It’s fairly straightforward. you first create a profile to use, in my case I used the VPN replacement profile template.

Then you create a device (in my case my windows PC) and link to the profile.

Finally you download a setup app, paste a code into it and you’re done. App can be used to disable the DNS as well.

I must admit after using a VPN for so long it’s a bit weird to start a stream without it and having it just work.

I’ve given it a try this morning and doesn’t seem to be working for me. I bought the cheaper of the 2 options though. Which do you get?

Edit. Bought the more expensive option and ots working. Thanks.

Yeah. I live in the UK, but my F1TV was bought using a VPN to another country. When I go in now and try to rematch last weekends race, I get a geographical error message. Tried different countries on the VPN, same message.

How can they tell it’s a VPN connection?

I’ve just checked with mine, they claim to be able to obfuscate that I’m using a VPN.

Will find out on Saturday, not looking forward to going back to dodgy streams tbh

Don’t they have a pool of IP addresses owned by VPN providers? Or is it more sophisticated than that, eg they look at packet headers.

Remember when mobile phone providers would block you if you were tethering to a phone by checking TTL count on the TCP packet headers.

The race replay for Hungary is a Pro video you can test now if you want to get contingencies in place.
