Reddit is plagued with astroturfing like this, and Lemmy is a reddit-like site. It is not unreasonable to be suspicious of an account like yours. If you want to deflect suspicion, go engage with more communities and comment on more posts.

Most farmers view their animals as walking investments, nothing more. No wonder they would choose the cruelest methods available if it means a greater return on investment.

Capitalism is a game where we compete and there are winners and losers. Okay, I mean Americans love competition and games, so that’s all well and good. But games have RULES, and if we are playing football and someone gets hurt, we don’t just dump them in the trash and keep playing. We pause or stop the game, we make sure they are doing okay, we get them to medical care if they need it. Then and only then do we resume playing the game. This is what socialism is in my mind - we still have a free market and use competition to breed innovation, but we also make sure everyone is doing okay before we continue the game. As is, it seems like our fearless leaders think that if you lose at the game, you deserve to die.

The fact that the Activision deal was allowed to go through is preposterous. Just like everything in our society involving corporations and absurd amounts of money. What’s the point of obliterating regulations if the corporations help nobody except their wealthy shareholders?

Thank you for your detailed thoughts! I haven’t heard some of these critiques yet, esp from someone that is deep in on Rocket League, and they are very interesting. I agree that they really have to fix that net code if they want this game to take off. Hopefully they are furiously toiling away on that as we speak.
Honestly I don’t see a parallel, the two photos are completely different. Not to say that they aren’t building a concentration camp in Florida, but if you want to change minds, it helps if your propaganda is coherent.

You can certainly choose to share a YouTube link instead of a written article, and you make great points for why. But for maximum reach and accessibility, I generally lean towards sharing text instead of video or audio, if the option is available. There’s a reason NPR puts all that work into transcribing the highlights!

In light of this, here’s the written article about this interview from NPR’s site, in which they share some of the interview highlights in writing.

Games as a medium need all the archive help they can get. My only crit is that, because this is a “history”, I would prefer a chronological list over an alphabetical list. Maybe Dot is working on making that an option, idk, but I appreciate the work all the same!
EDIT: Some Highlights for me:
- I appreciate the “H-rry P-tt-r” choice.
- This is my first time hearing about that hidden track on Guitar Hero.
- I did not know that one of the original Pokemon VAs was a trans lady!! Sososo cool
- AND she did a bunch of deeper voices in the Sonic games? Wtf she is so talented!!
- The Wolfenstein 3D and Doom drama was an interesting read.
- Honestly shocked that I did not know more about Rebecca Heineman and Jenell Jaqauys, given how prolific they are on this list. I am very immersed in games media, far more than the average gamer, and I really had no clue. I think that alone highlights how important this work is!!
Fun to read your detailed thoughts on the series as whole. Literally the only GOW game I have played is the 2018 reboot, and honestly I found it to be really cool and fun! The story ended up being a bit thin by the end, but I thought that it was really engaging and fun the first time through, as you are experiencing it. There were just enough twists and turns that I felt like i never knew exactly what was going to happen next. Even though I never played the OT, the moment where

Kratos goes home and takes the Blades of Chaos out of storage
was HYYYYYPE!!!
As a Dark Souls fan, I also found the slower pace of the combat to be pretty engaging. I played through all of the extra combat trials (idr what they are called) and beat all the Valkyries, so clearly I was enjoying myself. I liked all of the build options they give you with the loot and abilities. I remember beating my head against a few of the trials before realizing that a build overhaul made the trial trivial. Making builds is one of my favorite experiences in games, so I really appreciated this.
I don’t remember my exact feelings about the combat, but I remember my one major criticism was how slow Kratos turns around. They give you that input to do a fast 180, but when you are in a heated fight and you are getting surrounded by enemies, you can forget to tap it with all the other inputs you have to remember. The end result is it can feel like Kratos is resisting you as you try to spin around to hit some enemies behind you.
I know this one is a bit late, but I am hearing buzz about this game but it doesn’t seem like we’ve discussed this one here. “Rocket League without cars” is the tongue-in-cheek description i’ve heard, essentially getting at the idea that this is a soccer/football game with a lot of style that is also more accessible to people that aren’t football nuts.

The Feds are forgoing future income to aid in funding an initiative, I don’t see how that is meaningfully different from a subsidy. Obviously this bill is disgusting and transphobic, but I’m not sure what point you are trying to make with this post.

Why the internet hates ‘performative reading’English13·3 days agoI agree with others here that generally you should just read what you want and fuck em all. But if you are the kind of person who gets anxiety about this sort of thing (hello, it’s me), I gotta say that an e-reader is a great solution to this problem. Also means you can read Infinite Jest without having to lug around all 1000+ pages everywhere you go.
