2·45 minutes agoI wanted to try Kagi because it sounds like they’d be better at curating their database and I wouldn’t get SEO results? but they don’t have regional or coherent pricing. 5 USD for 300 searches? 10 USD for unlimited searches? It’s absurd. I get a whole suite of services for the same price as the “Professional” tier. Kagi’s infrastructure can’t be costlier than Proton’s, or Mullvad’s, or addy’s, Bitwarden’s, or Filen’s, etc.
5·6 hours agoI crush the pills into powder, and mix it with soft cheese, ensuring that the surface of the cheese has no pill bits. It’s a pain in the ass, but she ends up eating most of the medicine.
1·2 days agoAny difference in edition will be obvious in the runtime. If the movie is 1:29:43 in the theatrical edition and there’s a special edition that adds some time, say, a total of 1:47:13 runtime, you’ll want to ensure that the Latino audio you’re ripping is of the same edition. But the English and dub tracks will always be the same length for the same edition. Generally the Wiki articles of movies/shows have the runtimes. Or the fandom wikis.
Afterwards you can just merge the audio and video tracks into one container file (MKV, MP4, etc.).
I could believe it if he was a nobody, but Musk was very famous and rich already. He was being name-dropped in every show and movie, everything he did and said was plastered everywhere, and was having great publicity with “his” companies.
If he got killed after going public back then, nothing would have been gained by the Maxwells except place a spotlight on themselves.
I’m using Pop! OS 22.04, I’m happy with it. It’s a good distro for gaming, BUT… lately there have been a lot of issues with the NVIDIA driver, and the Linux 6.16 kernel. I only recommend it if you’re comfortable troubleshooting, using the TTY, and doing other stuff before giving up and deleting your whole drive. 😅

I get anxious when my dog is at the vet for a routine checkup and grooming. He has her for several hours, just because, and sometimes sends me pictures, and I tear up a little bit. But I know she’s having a blast, so I’m okay.
I can’t imagine being away from her for more than these few hours. I have more separation anxiety than her, I swear. 😂

1·2 days agoThe Pi thing was so stupid it upset me.
If the previous episodes hadn’t made a show of stating the eye is smart, it could have been a Clever Hans moment. Maybe it was. But it’s hard to tell where they want this to go.
That was my issue. I explained it elsewhere, but to me the screen is about entertainment. The books based on the Alien universe do a great job at exploring the question of humanity and consciousness in the synths, the brutal capitalism, and social issues. It’s harder to read/write about xeno battles, so I get it.
The actors, the props, and all that was awesome. I liked the show for what it was, but I expected xenomorphs in the Alien show, and not pet xenos, but actual uncontrollable ones. Maybe something like a zombie outbreak but with xenos.
I’m also kind of tired of coming-of-age stories, tbh. Maybe I’m just too old for it.
I was randomly shadowbanned a few days ago. No idea why. I only visited fandom and gaming subs. Got along with everyone. It just seems like they don’t want real users anymore. 🤷🏻♂️
At least now I’m back here and maybe it’ll be the final push to leave that website.
3·2 days agoFor countries where the currency is unstable, stable currency is a way to protect one’s savings.
Where I’m from, historically you’d save in USD. But in the last few years, the market has imposed dumb obstacles, like the paper notes being completely unblemished (something that isn’t even a thing in the US, as far as I’m aware). That’s where stablecoins have been useful for the locals.

Thank you! That explains why I got so confused. I had inferred from other phrases before that “being cooked” was bad, so I thought all instances of the “cooking” slang were the same. But I’m guessing it’s like the “shit” slang, where “being shit” and “being the shit” have two completely different connotations.

Off-topic: Can you explain what “cooked” means in this context? English is my second language, and while I’ve been speaking/writing it for decades, all these new slangs with common words are getting really confusing for me. I’d be grateful for an explanation.
I’ve always played video games one way or another, so I consider them all to be life changing. In a general sense, because getting games in my country wasn’t easy in the 80’s and 90’s, and most would bring them from the US, so I learned English through the games, which opened the possibility to hang out (online) with people from around the world.
But I think there’s two games that marked me:
Vampire the Masquerade Redemption, because until then I hadn’t played any story-driven true RPG. And after I finished it, I moved on to games like Fallout and Dragon Age, which led me to learn about modding, communities, etc.
The Last of Us, because until then no game (no matter how much I loved it) made me feel so intensely. I played it in several days, and each day I was emotionally exhausted. The ending left me speechless. I would wake up every day feeling like I’d been hit by a truck, for about a week or two.
