Where, might I ask? For a friend. Asking for a friend.
laranis@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you succumb to the urge to stop the microwave a few seconds before it actually stops ?1·10 小时前No, your comment was perfectly in context. I was nominating it as a perfect addition to an all time greatest list of post that, out of context, are amazing.
laranis@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you succumb to the urge to stop the microwave a few seconds before it actually stops ?2·1 天前Only if I’m standing across the room and my brain calculates that the time it takes to close the distance is within the time remaining on the countdown and I get to do a badass flip, twirl, and slide to stop it just in the nick of time so I get to pretend I have super hero level reflexes.
I cannot do badass flips but the point still stands. I can twirl and slide though, as long as I’m wearing socks.

If you tell them they’re only going to do something equally or more stupid in the future. If you don’t they will learn their lesson, albeit the hard way.
I may not be a great candidate for parenthood…

laranis@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How many of you use Lemmy and ONLY use Lemmy vs Reddit?2·15 天前Seconded. But… Sometimes the only place I can find the answer to an obscure issue I’m having is a comment on a nine year old reddit post six responses deep.
I do find it with Kagi, but I still feel dirty every time.

I’d bet if they were told the truth no amount of incentive would get them to sign up.

laranis@lemmy.zipto politics @lemmy.world•"The road to authoritarianism": Tim Walz says the time for "sternly worded letters" is over24·23 天前The Great Experiment is over. We had a good run. Time to start thinking about what comes next.
But, but, how will we monetize it? How!?

I long for the early 2k internet. So much potential positivity for humanity.

laranis@lemmy.zipto Technology@lemmy.world•Wikipedia Pauses AI-Generated Summaries After Editor BacklashEnglish25·26 天前People not getting things that seem obvious is an ongoing theme, it seems. We sat through a presentation at work by some guy who enthusiastically pitched AI to the masses. I don’t mean that’s what he did, I mean “enthusiasm” seemed to be his ONLY qualification. Aside from telling folks what buttons to press on the company’s AI app, he didn’t know SHIT. And the VP got on before and after and it was apparent that he didn’t know shit, either. Someone is whispering in these people’s ears and they’re writing fat checks, no doubt, and they haven’t a clue what an LLM is, what it is good at, nor what to be wary of. Absolutely ridiculous.
Never relax… The universe can sense when you’re content and will balance itself.
I’m with you. Hope we can do it without violence but it is looking grim.
