Oh i remember that feeder, I was the one asking how you made it in the post you linked from my old account, haha.

Yeah, it is impressive. But the cable looks still kinda fine, good quality cable!
Oh wow, that is kinda crazy.
Improperly sized cable housings? Like the length?
Yeah, generally no Spain etc in summer for me either. I was checking the forecast and it seemed alright for Sardinia, but my dumbass only checked coastal weather which looked fine, on the weekend it will be “only” 30 on the coast as well. 38°C is out of my comfort zone tbh, haha. Well, now I have to make it work.
Oh yeah, you did not have the best luck with the weather. And spanish mud is a motherfucker 😆
It is getting pretty damn hot here, really exhausting on the climbs but I keep watering my shirt and hat that makes it bearable. Forecast says 38°C inland on the weekend, gotta take it easy.
Love it. There is one couple in my yard but it never made it to my balcony, not that I know of. Only the wood pigeons. You got food there too or just the water?
I am right now sitting in a cafe, watching a collared dove bring sticks to the wistoria roof that covers the outdoor seats of the cafe.
Edit:
There it is 🥰
Ah. So your original plan was to be on the road up to June which I figured you did. You gonna travel some more long time? Maybe with a tandem? ;)
This year I’ll not do any longer trips, just regular holidays, got two weeks now.
Is ongoing, kinda hope to see a more cut case, but it’s not like that was the reason for my holidays, just a side quest.
I’ve passed a few villages now that had feral looking pigeons, but they behave kinda weird. I’ve hardly seen them search food in the villages and they’re very shy. The collared doves on the other hand I saw search for food in the villages. Feels a bit like bizarro land. I made up the theory that the feral looking population in at least inland Sardinia may be more of a rockdove. I am a bit confused. I guess the rockdoves lived here naturally, but I have found articles about people in Sardinia also being into breeding and racing pigeon sports.
That was between Bitti and Nuoro, quite close to Bitti though. I am now in Orgosolo, eating gelato :)
Pretty sure I saw a rockdove couple already. In the town where I was at I did not see any ferals, only collared doves, but 15 km off the coast into the mountains I saw two feral looking pigeons fly and land beneath a highway bridge. Very feral like spot, and might be some ferals who live next to a horse farm or something, but I’ll take those two as my first sighting of rock doves.
Are you ashamed of your post history or why did you create a new account for this noble cause?
Ya me too, I love how melancholic their coo sounds too. I read that the american mourning dove coo is even a good bit whinier, that must be heartbreaking, haha.
One of them just came along again and they also ate all the nut crumbs I had left while I was gone. Or maybe the goldfinches or sparrows. Pretty sure they’ll be here for breakfast, man they are some cuties. So small. It came real close now. Interestingly it did not seem to like cashew crumbs, just peanut crumbs.
edit: They were not here for breakfast.
Thank you, that is such a nice way to describe my rambling 😆
So you are now a stone collector i assume?
So refreshing seeing your posts here. Thanks for sharing.
Oh that sounds nice, never heard of this before.
Hmm, it has a ring, so it most likely belonged to somebody. Maybe it got lost. But yea, “need crumb” is probably what it does. If it got lost, it probably does not really know how to look for food on its own because it always has been fed by humans.
Thank you! I will keep posting some pigeon stuff when i’m on the road, just not as regular. I also hope to get to see some of the ferals’ wild ancestors on this holiday, but i will probably not have the right photo equipment on me.
Always got to watch out for drempels, even in France 😆
