Please explain the joke to me, because I don’t get it.
Trying2KnowMyselftoMicroblog Memes@lemmy.world•Alright... but who's the bottom?English8·9 months agoJokes that treat being gay as bad are themselves homophobic, yes - they do not reclaim the word, they perpetuate hatred. You’re welcome to make those jokes - I’m not stopping you by calling out your internalized homophobia.
You can also reclaim any words you want to. Nothing wrong with that.
Trying2KnowMyselftoMicroblog Memes@lemmy.world•Alright... but who's the bottom?English8·9 months agolol, the idea that I’ve said there is something wrong with being gay or being called gay is rich.
Trying2KnowMyselftoMicroblog Memes@lemmy.world•Alright... but who's the bottom?English7·9 months agoYeah, it is. It reinforces the idea that there is something wrong with a gay homophobe being gay, rather than the problem being that they are a homophobe.
Trying2KnowMyselftoMicroblog Memes@lemmy.world•Alright... but who's the bottom?English10·9 months agoAs a “joke” it treats being gay as derogatory. You’re welcome to make shitty homophobic jokes if you want to.
Trying2KnowMyselftoMicroblog Memes@lemmy.world•Alright... but who's the bottom?English15·9 months agoIt’s not just the top/bottom part that’s problematic, it’s the entire post. The punchline is “Trump and Elon are gay for each other, isn’t that funny?” which centers the idea that it would be bad or wrong for them to be gay for each other, perpetuating the conservative stereotype that there’s something wrong with being gay.

less upvotes than someone who thinks “haha gay” isn’t homophobic

I want to say started out more nonbinary and moved more towards masculinity, but it’s been years so I’m struggling to remember too.
It’s been a while since I read it, and I don’t think I’ve read the third book in the series yet, but I remember enjoying Lila Bowen’s “Wake of Vultures” and “Conspiracy of Ravens”. It probably needs similar trigger warnings iirc.
😬 yikes
