That’s generally how propaganda works, though.

No problem! It was really refreshing for me when I read it last year, hope you enjoy it!
I don’t see the point in doing so, you aren’t really a Hexbear user to begin with. I’m not sure what you’re trying to say about it other than that it appears you wish they were more open to non-Leftists when that’s antithetical to the purpose of the instance, as a safe space for Leftists.
Have a good one.
I think you’re being very dismissive of what I’m trying to say. Hexbear is a space for Marxists and Anarchists, that’s a part of the rules. It doesn’t hide that at all, and good-faith visitors are welcomed even if they aren’t Marxists or Anarchists. The English speaking internet is overwhelmingly dominated by liberal narratives, so it’s genuinely nice to have a space for leftists. As a result, there is very little fighting, except for occasional instance drama.
I don’t see why a space made by Leftists for Leftists needs to be accomodating for people hostile to Leftists, or why enforcing those rules is tantamount to “fighting.”
I said I don’t see constant fighting, struggle sessions crop up from time to time, like the one you linked from several months ago, and moreover these are the kinds of struggles from having humans together, not justifying the existence of Marxists and Anarchists. Pretty clearly a different matter entirely.
Elsewhere on Lemmy, liberal vs leftist fighting is constant. This happens infrequently on Hexbear, when a liberal walks in, but this is usually entirely avoidable. Furthermore, bigotry is taken far more seriously than it is on many other instances, which is a big bonus for me.
Piranesi is a personal favorite of mine, overall uplifting.
It’s more that Hexbear doesn’t make apologies for being largely made up of Marxists and Anarchists. I enjoy my time there quite a lot as a Marxist, where I don’t really see constant fighting like I do on the rest of the fediverse. Like you hinted at, the non-political communities are very nice, such as !games@hexbear.net, and that’s generally because the people are nice, just tired of having to debate everyone to justify their existence. For me, I also find the political communities nice as well.
Food for thought.
Lemmy.world is defederated from Hexbear.net. You can make an account on Hexbear.net or an instance federated with Hexbear.net, like Lemmy.ml or otherwise. Voyager has nothing to do with it, my partner uses Voyager for Hexbear.
The fact that Xiaohongshu is Chinese is the point, it’s a protest against banning Chinese Social Media without holding US-based Social Media to the same standard.
I think you’re making the same error you’re trying to call out. Sorting through the flurry of insults, your core complaint is that Marxist-Leninists don’t see nuance. I think this is disingenuous, Marxism-Leninism has strong theoretical foundations that are logically consistent. Similarly, you flip from the strawman that “everyone that isn’t an ML is a fascist” to your own assertion that everyone is fascist, or at least it appears that’s your claim. I don’t really think you have a clear conception of what constitutes fascism, or if you do it isn’t readily apparent, same with Imperialism.
I think if you want to understand MLs more you could probably be served better by trying to work from an initial place of trying to understand why MLs think the way they do, rather than trying to come up with post-hoc justifications.
Just my partner and I.
Too late, you’re a tankie now 👻
The thing with memes is that they can have a genuine impact on how people view something. People’s views are largely impacted by their exposure, as a general trend, and most people haven’t actually done the reading to see what the credit system in China even looks like. That leaves a large number of people believing in dystopian fantasies of widespread facial tracking and morality judging from cameras on every corner, despite the implausability of such a system.
Yep, I remember that one as it came out. Super silly.
Half right, the Russian Federation abandoned Socialism with the dissolution of the USSR. The PRC hasn’t achieved Communism yet, but have a Socialist Market Economy and are run along Marxist-Leninist analysis. It isn’t correct to call the PRC an “oligarchy” either, China Has Billionaires but they are subservient to the CPC, which has over 96 million people and functions in a “top down, from the bottom up” fashion. Those at the top of the CPC, in the NPC, are largely educated non-bourgeoisie.
The thing with the shirt is that it places greater emphasis on the visuals. If we accept that there’s in some cases a connection to the shirt, we can also accept that that means there is certainly connection to the yellow bear. “Yellowface” is already a known concept.
Fair enough. However, I think it’s worth pointing out that the most vocal users of such iconography, when confronted with even the possibility that it may in fact be racist to depict a chinese man as a yellow bear (curiously, usually depicted wearing a red shirt, like the flag of the PRC), they tie themselves into frothing logical pretzels to defend their usage, rather than shifting to any other clearly non-racist yet still insulting caricature.
Note: absolutely not saying the author of Pooh was making anti-China iconography way back when, I am pointing out modern usage.
The original, unedited meme had “Canadians” as a type of Leftist, don’t put any stock into the list. The punchline works all the same.
