Canadian_Bakin@beehaw.orgto Socialism@beehaw.org•Artificial Intelligence Is Driving Discrimination in the Housing MarketEnglish2·2 years agoFirst, thanks for modding this hive @OneRedFox, second thanks for posting this.
With as quickly as technology moves and the myriad of reasons new technology is pushed/adopted, it’s all too easy to overlook immoral and unethical behavior. This article definitely touches on many things that people should be wary of regarding the use (and blind trust) of AI technology. Though only anecdotal, it unfortunately seems like most people that have the influence to push meaningful discussion about subjects like this in the larger social arenas are too occupied with how “shiny” AI technology is.
That being said, I’m going on record now and stating that I’ll be fighting for the resistance against Skynet. 🍁

Canadian_Bakin@beehaw.orgto People of Color@beehaw.org•Beehawers of Color: introduce yourselves!2·2 years agoHey !poc Hive. I’m Canadian of Indo-Caribbean descent and now living in the US. I enjoy baking (obvi) and the science behind it, video games, a wide variety of music & movies, comic books, finding sneaky ways to talk about socialism, helping people try to understand why having empathy is a good thing, and a great many other things. I’m currently trying to teach myself Python programming and get into D&D (one of those things is harder than the other lol). 🍁

Canadian_Bakin@beehaw.orgOPto Food and Cooking@beehaw.org•[Recipe incl.] Classic Chocolate Chip CookiesEnglish1·2 years agoThanks ❤️🍁. As for the mods, I didn’t smoke the butter, I swapped out the vanilla bean for vanilla extract (b/c who’s go the time) and I added a pinch of cinnamon & nutmeg to give it an overall warmer flavor.
Canadian_Bakin@beehaw.orgto Gaming@beehaw.org•What's the age cut off for socially acceptable gamingEnglish1·2 years agoWell said and well written. Your teachers must have had an easy time grading your papers. 😆 🍁
If you were on all the baking subreddits you might’ve already seen a bake of mine. I’m not exactly the best with deco (working on it though), but I’m pretty good with flavor and texture—not that those things translate well in a digital medium lol. Either way, hopefully I don’t disappoint. 🍁
Canadian_Bakin@beehaw.orgto Chat@beehaw.org•Drinkers, what is your preferred alcoholic beverage?English2·2 years agoOooo, this sounds fantastic, I’m an old-fashioned fan myself. I’ll have to try this next time I make one. Thanks for the suggestion! 🍁
Canadian_Bakin@beehaw.orgto Chat@beehaw.org•Drinkers, what is your preferred alcoholic beverage?English1·2 years agoBourbon & scotch are my spirits of choice if I’m classing it up. Balvenie Caribbean Cask is quite delicious. I would describe it as containing tasting notes of both whiskey & rum. And the Mr. Swanson/Offerman approved, Lagavulin, is a fantastic sipping scotch.
If I’m not going classy, it’s good ol’ Canadian club & diet. Can’t go wrong. 🍁

Hi all! Another one of those pesky "reddit-fugees” as it were. It was my only sort of “social media” which I mostly used to post pictures of things I baked and try to have positive interactions with other online community members. So needless to say I’m glad I found this server/instance and I’m looking forward to participating in the community.
Beeeeeeeeeeeehawwwwwwwww!!! 🍁
It stinks to hear you’re struggling friend. But it’s good to hear you’re trying your best to make it through. ❤️🍁
Canadian_Bakin@beehaw.orgto Entertainment@beehaw.org•What are some good slice-of-life movies?English3·2 years agoI think Chef (2014) would fit into that category.
And a fun added bonus is, Favreau’s training with chef Roy Choi in preparation for the film inspired the Netlix show, The Chef Show.
Thank you ☺️❤️.
I didn’t know what an alfajor was and looked it up. Thanks for helping broaden my dessert horizons!
Also, thanks for the suggestions. I’ve done a few filled desserts before, but most of them are filled after baking; this one was filled after baking.
As far as walnuts go, funny enough, that’s a big “no thanks” for me b/c I’m allergic to tree nuts (i.e. walnuts, almonds, cashews, etc) lol. 🍁
