I mean, that’s just the age group these days. That one pic nails the cancer that killed /b/ better than almost any other. It’s too dumb to be anything but dumb, where they used to somehow be creative and more sophisticated, yet still dumb, all at the same time.

Could that be anything other than some children?

He will not divide us wouldn’t happen on current 4chan. Certainly stupid and immature trolling, but there was just so much there that it’s impossible not to be entertained by it.

There was a point where the people in the cross section between smart enough to actually pull shit off but still dumb enough to do said dumb shit. It’s not nostalgia, it’s just the site’s userbase has changed quite a bit. Like how the install Gentoo meme slowly disappeared from /g/ as population of the site actually became too stupid to install Gentoo. These are places that used to have full wikis people would regularly maintain to tell people about the board culture and common knowledge, the people who actually added to the feeling of community are gone.

The communities on the site are objectively shittier and less built than they were a decade ago. It was like a slower version of the Reddit burn. There’s been a slow shift of these sorts of people to discord and other similar platforms that leaves 4chan a completely different community pretending to be the “original”.

I know it’s gotten worse, but imo 4chan went to shit in like 2015 after gamergate happened and every board started just kind of being a themed /pol/, so it’s weird seeing someone nostalgic for that era

I’m just marking the point that the boards lost all semblance of being an actual community. I hadn’t been using 4chan for years by the time HWNDU popped up. Discord just became the new 4chan socially imo. I’m saying that HWNDU is probably going to be the last 4chan bit that makes the website feel bigger than itself. There hasn’t really been any major newsworthy 4chan trolls since then. If there was enough community there for one to happen after that, I’m sure we would have seen one by now.

The people from Minnesota I’ve met sounded more like the stereotypical Canadian accent than the Canadians I’ve met, so there’s that.
