I grew up seeing these birds everywhere. But no matter how many people I ask, no one can tell me what type of bird it is. I’m guessing some type of finch?
I’m in the southern part of Florida, USA, if that’s helpful.

An answer after all of these years! Thank you!
They are invasive, horrifying creatures in the United States. They will invade a native songbird nest and kill all the eggs.
Not everyone lives in the USA. Also people are the reason they were released in the USA on purpose to control the pests eating the crops. It’s not their fault, and certainly not fair to describe them this way.
House sparrows were my spark bird and Mama and Papa bird have nested with me in my garage with The Flock™ for 5 years now. They mean the world to me. We even had a robin pair nest in our garage and the sparrows didn’t touch the nest or their hatchlings.
Please leave them alone.
Updated to mention the US. Assuming we are talking about the US I disagree, but I am happy that you found bird(s) that you enjoy! They are magical creatures.
Bro relax it’s a fucking sparrow 🤦♂️
It isn’t the worst problem in the world but it is important.
Cats kill a ton of songbirds, so do invasive sparrows.
Humans are also destroying native habitat, so our native species are struggling. We can ignore it sure, but eventually we won’t have any left.
Oh. Oh dear. That’s a surprising and terrifying fact.
I see them all the time and I never realized that 😔
Came here to say this, but you beat me to it! Hello there, bird sister!
Hi hi!
I had one of these sparrows as a pet once. Got it as a baby after a rainstorm. Kept it, fed it, it grew up and lived in our house. We would take it outside while we at playing and she would fly around and always return to my shoulder before it was time to go back.
I can tell she grew up a little funny because she would fly up to birds that weren’t her kind. She was accosting this red headed woodpecker who seemed very confused. TWEET TWEET TWEET TWEET at him like a baby.
One day, she decided to stay in the magnolia tree. I gave her loads of time, we left the window open. It was sad but at the same time we were happy because it seemed like she grew up.
That is a beautiful story. :-)
Here’s another photo, maybe better quality.

Definitely a bird if you ask me. The polite type perhaps?
