Let’s do a small Fediverse chess tournament! Everyone is welcome to join!
We will play 10-minute games (10+0) on lichess, a free and open-source chess website. You will be assigned an opponent and will have 2 days to schedule and play your match.
I will decide on the structure of the tournament (brackets, groups etc.) based on the number of sign-ups here :)
Sign up by commenting here with your lichess account name.
Signup deadline is Wednesday, 2pm UTC. Shortly after, I’ll announce the first pairings :)
Looking forward to some nice matches ❤️

Thanks for joining! @_mycowan@lemmy.world @library_patron@lemmy.blahaj.zone @Caboose12000@lemmy.world @CrazyMerlyn@lemmy.ml @Fabiozeh@lemmy.world @BabaDuda@lemmy.ml
https://lichess.org/Rgr7yWOK: BabaDuda versus library_patron 1-0
A lot of swings, but hopefully still interesting. As black I was happy to go up in material, but although I knew I really had to keep an eye on king safety, that’s exactly what I failed to do.
(Also, as someone used to not playing with time controls, rapid feels so fast. I have no idea how people do blitz or bullet.)
Made a Lichess account to participate: @library_patron
I am sure I will lose spectacularly, but if even I’m willing to join, nobody can use the excuse that their rating is too low to participate.
@BabaDuda, what kind of times are good for you? 14:00 to 21:00 UTC is best for me, but since the games are rapid, I can be flexible about similar times.
@Vincenius@lemmy.ml Just FYI, but because of the load on lemmy.ml, a lot of the comments and mention notifications on that instance aren’t getting through the backlog and federating to other instances. Compare this post to what I currently see through my home instance or what the lemmy.world folks see. In particular, @Coolbootyjames@lemmy.world seems to have been left out, and it might be a good idea to send DMs to the lemmy.world people to tell them about your comment.
Anyway, something I wanted to ask, but can’t make into a reply to the Round 1 comment yet is what we’re doing for colors. Are we randomizing each game, or should we read the person on the left as being White and the person on the right as being Black?
Just peeking through the door - Checking if the chess tournament is still ongoing or everyone fell asleep.
I’m still here, but something’s definitely off… I can only see this post with my Lemmy.ml account. Lemmy.world is not loading posts and comments correctly :-/
Maybe OP should try a new post?
It seems that there are some syncing issues with lemmy.world currently.
Link to the post : There is some desync issue with lemmy.world and feddit.de
Did you notice a change in the syncing issue? I am hoping this platform will be an alternative to Reddit in the future. I am digging the vibes a lot.
