Boars are delicious up to a certain size. Bigots are never tasty.

However, if either are coming at you, I support protecting yourself however you need to.

Bigots do, however, make good material for scavengers, helping the environment.

Reminds me of one of the first full sentences my son came up with. Just nodding sagely from his car seat tells his mom, “Mommy I don’t like catholics, they do not taste good on a sammich.”

Watch them label Transgerism as a mental illness and use it to revoke firearms…

Well it actually was a classified as a mental illness forever until 2013 when DSM-V was issued and “gender identity disorder” was removed and replaced with “gender dysphoria”. That changed the focus from treating trans folks like the illness was being trans, and shifted it to treating the distress caused by the mismatch between the gender they are in their head and the gender they see when they look at their body. Not all trans folks fit the criteria of having gender dysphoria.

Plus… there’s the bureaucratic issue of placing the diagnosis on the trans person… “they” can’t just come get your guns b/c you “have a mental illness”. And generally, the whole thing about people with mental illness not having access to firearms is typically to prevent self harm… not to prevent dangerous behavior towards others. That’s a protection I feel is worthwhile on the whole.

You seem to underestimate the lengths the republicans will go to push their “culture war”. It is not an ambiguous “they”, it is the republican party paired with their various fringe alt right groups.

Please don’t misinterpret my “well acktshually” as a “don’t worry about” it statement. I absolutely believe people should arm themselves if they believe they need to. Trans people are definitely included in that statement. I also don’t discount the threat that Texas’s gender affirming care bill you reference poses to trans people, and really everyone. If they can wantonly make standard medical care for trans folks illegal, what’s going to stop them from making vasectomies illegal, or medically necessary hysterectomies? It’s fucking nonsense. The government should get out from between doctors and their patients.

My point to make is, if they want to make a “mental illness” argument to take guns away from trans folks, they might have a difficult time…

Not sure what the border patrol article has to do with the conversation… besides illustrating how much of an asshole Greg Abbot is.

The border patrol thing was to show that Abbott is willing to go against the Federal government to pursue his culture war. Legality has little to nothing to do with some of the decisions he has made. I don’t like it when people portray the Republicans as stupid people who are all talk (not saying you did). They are causing legitimate harm and rarely having any real consequences for their actions.

its worth considering that just because someone is “mentally ill” doesn’t mean they shouldnt be allowed to own a gun either. There are plenty of mental illnesses that don’t pose a significant threat to that right.

Not everyone can just leave. For example in my state if you have joint custody you can’t leave the state with your kids without your ex’s written permission.

Yeah, while a gun might protect you from a violent individual in the right circumstances, it does nothing to actually protect your rights beyond that.

A gun can’t get you medication if a doctor is forbid by law to treat you, a gun doesn’t allow you to cast a vote and have it counted, a gun can’t stop them classifying you as a sexual predator etc.

Guns are actually mostly useless, even at keeping you truly safe.

Fearing? The state leaders are making it clear they want trans folk eradicated. They want them to stay out of public life and out of any position of power.
