    today I learned

    that people riding bicycles do not belong in a position on the road (without a bike lane) where they can be passed easily. This area is also known as the door-zone and is a dangerous place. It’s statistically safer to be in the middle of a car lane than to squeeze onto a narrow shoulder. If the bike is very slow and walks across crosswalks, then the sidewalks are safe-ish to use when there are no pedestrians.

    This goes against what my intuition told me, which is that a place that annoys car drivers the least is also the safest place to be.
