I think everyone understands what the “incomplete” acronym means

That’s the thing, some people intentionally leave letters off to exclude groups

For example the people who use LGB lately who are queer anti-trans folks

This is why I prefer just saying “the Queer community” rather than try to remember the letters. I barely remember shit as is, I won’t be able to remember all the letters.

I assume everything of the form LGBT[any other characters] is the same, LGB being a special exception because I know they did that for a reason. I do like queer as a community label though, it feels like a fuzzier term which reflects the fuzzy nature of community.

the fuzzy nature of the community

            Exactly

Sex, gender, sexuality, etc are all on a spectrum and trying to fit anyone into any specific category without overlap just ain’t gonna happen so using Queer is more inclusive IMO

Some trans folk also dislike the distinction

It’s sounds pretty stupid but this is (partially) why I prefer the term “queer community”

I don’t know all the letters, I don’t expect anyone else to know all the letters, and we should be taking back the term “queer”

I’m bi and it’s just easier to stick with “I’m a member of the Queer community” than “I’m a member of the LGBTQA2SI+ community”

Yeah I think LGBT is valuable as a specific cultural coalition in America that’s become mostly outdated and replaced with queer. Like personally I find it more relevant to just say “yeah I’m a lesbian” or “yeah I’m trans” or occasionally “actually I’m mildly intersex”. The rest of y’all being family is implied.

I do like LGBT for its history and for the fact that it acknowledges we have our own cultures, but it’s not like people get that when they hear it.
