This community is for discussions specific to the lemmy.blahaj.zone instance, but it seems like we get lots of comments from other instances who have no real stake in the matter. I imagine the vast majority are well-meaning people who just don’t really understand federation well yet and don’t understand they’re commenting on a totally different instance’s internal matter.

I wonder if it would be possible to make this community read-only for non-Blahaj Zone accounts? And if it’s possible, does anyone else (on this instance 😉) think it’s a good idea?

People from other instances can and do use our communities and are affected by our admins’ decisions. So to say they have no real stake in the matter is not entirely accurate.

That said, there are certain decisions they have no stake in, for example the debate of whether we defederate with x, y, or z.

That’s a fair point. Thanks for pointing it out!

While I think this is a good point, it feels like most of them usually don’t even know where they are. Look at the recent discussion on Threads for example. It’s mostly outsiders using the posts as a place for general discussion, and has totally drowned out any instance specific discussion.

Agreed. The problem has become significantly worse during the last 24 hours. I do still feel these are well-intentioned people who just lack awareness and understanding, but it’s becoming frustrating.

I honestly think part of the problem is just how small text for the community name is in the post feed in lemmy.

Also, for some folks who are new to the fediverse, the usage of “Meta” may not be totally obvious.

I think its a good idea. Blåhaj-specific decisions should be blåhaj only. Perhaps have some sort of tag that can be added to a post that opens it up to all instances in case an issue is blåhaj specific but impacts other instances as well.

Im curious, is there any sort of automod functionality for lemmy? If so id imagine it would be easy to check the instance a user belongs to and if its not blåhaj respond with a generic message and remove the comment.

Edit: or perhaps turn it on its head and have a tag saying a post is for blåhaj internal discussion only, with the default being an open-for-all space?

Another edit: i found a bot¹ that fully implements the lemmy api, which ostensibly means it could be used as an automod. Its not server-side, so it has to operate as a normal user.

I wonder if the community id !main itself is causing some confusion? If this keeps on coming up, maybe moving meta to a more obvious name might work.

Oh, I think we may have a misunderstanding — I’m suggesting making only the meta (!main) community read-only for non-BlahajZone users. This absolutely shouldn’t apply to any other community here.

Ok, But i think it would be a matter of privileges, and I don’t know if Lemmy software has that.

hey I’m not from lemmy.blahaj.zone but I agree if there was some way of doing this for specific communities that’d be awesome. don’t think it’s possible atm
