Fun fact, this website has a weird way of treating you when you get banned. Because the only thing that will happen is that trying to post a comment or anything will result in an infinite loading screen that will not allow you to get anything on the sub.

I checked this by trying to post stuff on other subs, and it worked perfectly.

I came here after the fiasco of dndmemes and the invasion of goblin porn we used against reddit administrators. When posts stopped getting uploaded, I took my bow and left for here, a website advertised by mods that were themselves banned from reddit for allowing the 18 + content to exist.

This is context for me to you for a simple reason : I was banned after posting an alignment chart that included 18 + content. Something I thought was funny and hot and wanted to share it around.

The thing is, I marked it as NSFW and there aren’t really any strict rules about the sub. Either I was banned by mods without warning, or enough people reported the post and it was enough. I tried contacting the mods, to no avail.

And so again, I will leave this website, disgusting by how bad the moderation here is. But not without leaving you a warning. Apparently, if you post something that will offend enough people (even if you mark it NSFW and is still RPG content) you will get your head chopped off.

I do not intend to use this account to even check any answer you would leave me. I no longer care. Just like I no longer cared about reddit.

Be careful and do not trust the rules, the mob of chaperones will get you to never be allowed to load a new post in.

May your 20s be natural.

    Modlog for context: https://ttrpg.network/modlog/11

Anyway, I’m an onlooker and have no affiliation with ttrpg.network - I just like sticking my nose in places where it doesn’t belong.

I agree that the ban on NSFW content should be disclaimed in the sidebar, but at the same time, I think that’s the community moderator’s choice. IIRC DNDMemes on Reddit also blocked NSFW stuff.

However, I’d like to point out that ttrpg.network has open community creation and an explicit NSFW allowed stance. You could easily just create /c/spicydndmemes or something and designate it as where to put all your snitty pics. Although there are moderation concerns and potential drama with NSFW communities which have to be considered.

I’m all for having NSFW friendly places, but at the same time, if people want two separate communities for NSFW and SFW stuff, that makes sense to me. Nothing stopping people from subscribing to both of them.

Based on the only recently removed user and their visible posts I’d say it’s fair to call it not suitable for the community and also that they had a raw deal - should have been given a warning or something before the ban. I’d be happy to see content like that but likely would need a dedicated community for spicy memes.

I definitely think the community should call out the limits.

Thanks for sharing the mod log and your views!

FWIW: Temp bans are frequently used as a “warning” both within lemmy moderation and on reddit. Not saying everywhere does it, but its a pretty common practice. I assume that’s what the above ban was for, along with the note that was basically “please don’t post porn”.

One key difference, though, is that the lemmy moderation action does not create a message that goes to the user and opens a dialogue like it does on reddit. For whatever reason, lemmy users are expected to go check the mod logs when their stuff gets moderated, rather than a message being sent to them. This is expected behavior of the software, which feels really weird/wrong to me, but it is what it is.

As far as this particular moderation action goes: my stance as an admin is that mods of the communities are allowed to moderate their community as they see fit, so i have no real opinion one way or the other here on if that should be allowed or not.

That lack of communication along with a ban is a pretty important difference, thanks for highlighting it. Maybe the mod could also send a message to the user with the context of the ban, but they have to do it manually.

I appreciate your light touch on moderation, though I think you might want to have really basic rules e.g. no CP, to protect yourself as the apparent owner of the site.

That’s actually covered by rule 1 of the site rules.

            1. Don’t do anything illegal - anything against the law is basically prohibited here. We’d like to keep our instance relatively above board.

          “Alewdment chart by @DirtyEro”

Uninspired. Banal. This is the comedic step child of thinking nermal abuse is funny.

To the wolves, OP. Thumbs down.

There was a really terrible 3x3 grid of cartoon porn, which was honestly neither hot not wann alignment chart.

Oh, I’m not just here for the cartoon porn.

Some are touched by Calliope and Melpomene. Their works reflect themselves. Great or low. In short, you can tell a lot about a person by what inspires them.

It was my sincere hope that OP unwittingly laid bare their soul when they went to bat for a jpeg with a 9x9 grid of nakies. This is the only kind of poetry you can find in the modern age.

I’m very thirsty in this wasteland and I need someone to show me this hot alignment grid so that I can judge it’s its author. There is no other succor for me.

You are confusing a few things.

The “mods” you are taking about are actually the developers. They develop the software and run one instance, but they aren’t the ones running this instance and this community.

This instance is ttrpg.network. It’s run by the admins of this instance, which are in no way affiliated with the developers.

And this community (RPGmemes) is run by the mods of this community, who got chosen by being the first ones to open this community.

The admins can remove moderators, but most of the time the moderators do their own thing unless they do something to damage the instance.

The mods in many communites are new and/or not used to run a community with a lot of members, so rules and punishments aren’t always consistent. You are not on a commercial site with long-standing moderation.

Typical rage-quit. They could message the mod, apologizing and asking them to update the rules - but then they couldn’t use the free speech narrative.

Of course they all demand they should be able to upload whatever vile shit they want and completely forget that these are individuals who have to host their shit. As a server admin myself I am very open with the bans. I can’t just be hosting whatever they decide to upload

Yeah I’ve found most of the time people getting banned for being “too risque” don’t realize that it’s only them who finds it funny. 2 week ban is a pretty heavy thing… but I didn’t see the meme either.
