It looked like some Rick and Morty inspired cash grab from Paramount+ to fill out their streaming line up, so it was immediately passed over by me and some friends. When it got a 3rd season I realized it was probably going to last and started watching it when I can.

I wanted to get Paramount+ for it but their other Trek stuff is hot garbage for this TNG fan and it feels like paying for just one show would encourage them to continue fucking up Trek like they have. At least I have good friends who don’t mind subsidizing Rick Berman’s flavor of boomer space action.

The ONLY reason we have Paramount+ is because my wife wanted to watch some soaps on it (IDK even which ones, I couldn’t be less interested). But I WAS like “Now I can watch Lower Decks! Sweet.”

I’ve never been a huge fan of “adult animation”, or really animation in general. So I had to get over that hill of bias. But once I did, I found I enjoyed this show. Those Old Scientists on Strange New Worlds is actually what made me go back and give Lower Decks a second try.

Anyway, I’m excited to see where season 5 goes. I also kinda want another live-action crossover.

This show, like most trek, really found it’s footing after one or two seasons. The characters have depth and personality and don’t just exist for sake of the jokes.

I still struggle with some of the crass humor, but that’s because I’m rather particular about what I find funny. The last season was particularly good on character building and they did set it up for a very exciting new season indeed.

@IonAddis @USSBurritoTruck I have a hard time with animated adult shows too. The plots always seem too simple, like sitcoms. I recently tried to get into Attack on Titan. Liked the concept, but the shows were very simple and predictable. Same thing with Love, Death and Robots and Lower Decks. (Love the other Treks, but predictable plots lose me.)

I honestly think that Lower Decks has the potential to be the longest running Star Trek show.

I assume they are cheaper to produce than the live action shows so less risk for the executives but still decent return on investment.

I stopped caring when Amazon Prime required you to buy Disney+ to watch THEIR FUCKING ORIGINAL
