What lemmy android app do you recommend? I have too many problems with jerboa. My problems with jerboa:
- When I write a pm to someone it sends that message to myself
- Language of the interface is Polish (my first language) and I can’t change it to english (at least on the version that I’m on rn)
- Scrolling is very buggy (it stutters a lot)
- Often when I want to make a comment it doesn’t send it and I have to go to my pc an rewrite my comment to be able to send it
- It doesn’t play gifs on the feed by default, I have to open the image to play the gif
- It doesn’t play gifs in the comments at all and there’s no way for me to play them
- There are no embeds for videos (not sure if there’s any mobile app that has that)
- etc.
What I’m looking for:
- An app with developed UI/UX
- Obligatory dark mode
- Something that resolves my problems with jerboa
Any recommendations or apps that I should follow the development of?
Liftoff is coming along nicely
This big “+” in the middle at the bottom of the app is a bit annoying, is there a way to make it smaller and move it down like the rest of the buttons are?
Liftoff seems to be open source. Pretty sure you can ask the dev about this feature.
I didn’t find a way to customize that part so far.
White text is also way too bright in amoled mode so I will make an issue for this and making the “+” smaller.
Second this, liftoff is pretty amazing and they look to be integrating kbin the future as well.

Just installed, I’m liking it so far. It’s a little laggy and stuttery, but hey, like all other Lemmy apps right now it’s in beta. The navigation feels better to me than other options. Thanks!
Seconded! Upvoting seems slow, that’s the only thing I noticed
Definitely recommend Connect for Lemmy. Gives me RIF vibes and has worked really well for me.
I like connect, though it’s not without its own issues - the comment box is clunky, and poorly designed and if the parent post/comment is too long or you type a long comment the keyboard can cover the area youre typing in, making it impossible to tell if you are making mistakes without closing the keyboard.
Mainly reminds me of Sync haha. Sync for Lemmy is in the works, hope it works out!
It has pretty good configuration options, I’ve managed to make it function like RelayForReddit the app I’ve used forever
Wait for this app, if you are on android. It once was among the best Android apps in general and a very popular Reddit client. It’s going to be great!
I used sync for almost a decade and I can confirm it was the optimal reddit experience. When the developer comes out with sync for lemmy I am immediately using it.
Same. I bought it in 2014 and it has been my most used app on my phone since then. 🙂
Fuck u/spez
I’m currently waiting but in the meantime I’m using https://wefwef.app
Wefwef.app install as a PWA it’s amazing
It’s a turn-off for me that this is made up to look like an iOS app. I’m using an android phone and it’s kind of weird to have the sudden switch between paradigms.
Wefwef is open source, it would be cool if someone could fork it and make a version that looks more like an Android app experience.
It’s on their roadmap to make an android interface. https://github.com/aeharding/wefwef
As someone who’s only used android, I cannot see what makes this look like iOS so I’m fairly happy with it.
Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not disliking the project. I just think the design isn’t that great. That’s all. Glad it works well for you.
Yeah I understand. the good news is that it’s on their roadmap to make an android UI/UX. https://github.com/aeharding/wefwef
I was searching for an android app but I guess I will give this web client a shot.
Try: Liftoff, summit, Thunder, connect, etc.
Its surprisingly impressive for a web app, when installed its hardly noticable that its not native.
There are a number of android apps in development and idk which is best right now. But I have been very impressed with this PWA
It does have an app, if you go into settings you can install it from there. I’m using it now and like it
Liftoff, Connect, Thunder and wefwef , I think wefwef is having issues right now. still alpha but its really nice. i think devs are trying to stop hitting the api rate limit or something. wefwef is just like apollo but for android and ios
Also summit and lemotif
Does anyone know why wefwef tells me my credentials are invalid when I try to login to my Lemmy.world account? I’m copy/pasting from a password manager, so I know I’m not typing it wrong.
Case sensitive. I’ve noticed this with some other apps too.
For me to log in I need to put all lower case. Despite my name having two upper case letters
Unfortunately this didn’t work for me. It’s not a huge deal as I’m really just waiting for sync for lemmy, but at this point I’m more curious why it isn’t letting me login. Pretty strange.
I’ll second wefwef
It’s the best of the bunch right now
Still looking forward to Sync!
Does it not support kbin?
Sadly not. I setup account on vlemmy for now.
I second this, wefwef is brilliant
@Martineski boost for wefwef, it’s filling the Apollo-sized hole in my heart. For Kbin, following the work of @dansup with great interest… Pixelfed is such a smooth app, I have tempered expectations but high hopes for his Kbam app.
I started with jerboa, then I’m now trying out connect.
I’ve customized both to feel likewhat I have with RiF (just text, no cards, amoled black).
I think I’ll stay for a while with connect for a while.
Thanks for the recommendation! I just started using Connect, instead of Jerboa, and I really like it so far. It reminds me of RiF is Fun a bit and so far it’s much smother than Jerboa.

+1 for Connect.
Agreed. Loving connect so far. Lots of options in settings for appearance. I’m coming from relay for reddit so choosing ‘reverse list’ makes the experience most similar
Liftoff has been great for me.
I think it’ll take some time until these apps become that andvanced. Most lemmy apps are in a pretty early stage of developement and still highly WIP.
Some third party reddit apps seem to be planning on moving to lemmy, so maybe we’ll see something better coming around the corner in the near future.
Boost, my favorite one, didn’t get updated for quite a while and got a nice update pushed out after the API changes were announced. Kind of heartbreaking to see that effort destroyed, but the dev has announced that boost for lemmy will be a thing. The UI of boost is one of the best I ever used, so I think that the lemmy version will be great even early in development.
Yeah, devs like these have the perfect kind of experience considering UI/UX developement to get this done well.
I’m waiting for Boost for Lemmy. I used boost for reddit for years and I would hate to see it go
Same here man boost on reddit was my shit for years. If boost looks and feels the same as it did on reddit I will be delighted.
Me too bud, just got the good news about the upcoming Lemmy app this morning and I’m over the moon.
I use Liftoff and wefwef
Third for wefwef, gotta embrace good web apps when you see them.
Is it me or is it missing an option to sort by ‘top’?
It doesn’t have a top filter for the Frontpage but inside each post/comment it does.
Same here, they both work well
Wefwef is great
I discovered wefwef today. It’s the most impressive web app I’ve ever used, to be honest. Let alone being my new favourite Lemmy client.
Using connect but waiting on boost for lemmy. It’s pretty decent so far
You’d like wefwef.app
It does what you ask and more
Agreed, my choice until boost or sync launch most likely
Currently trying out Thunder and it seems nice
I tried handful of apps and Thunder gives me that baconreader feel (a lot of content compress on a single screen)… and it amazingly snappy.
I use Firefox for Android. It works perfectly, everything is usable, good UX, has dark mode, and the app even works for other websites!
You can even install the ublock extension to block all ads & trackers in opened links, or use it to block large images by default to save data. And you can install the tampermonkey extension to add this userscript I made, which rewrites all links everywhere (not only on Lemmy) to always point to your home instance. It helps a lot with subscribing to communities and in general makes browsing the web and finding Lemmy links nicer.
I honestly don’t see the reason why you’d want to use a separate app.
I use Firefox on mobile too. UI could be a bit better (like more separation between comments) but it’s nice and seems to work better than the apps.
Thanks for the useful script!
