Hi Android Community, I previously used “DFCleaner” which was a free, ad-supported app that searched specified folders for duplicate files and let you preview and delete anything that it found. This app now bothers me with a consent form for ad tracking so I’ve ditched it in protest. Are there any open source alternatives to this app? I’ve tried looking in F-Droid but couldn’t find anything relevant.

I think Google Files already has that function included, but I’ve actually never used it, so try it out.
Termux.
If you don’t know terminal it’s intimidating I guess l, but you can Google how to find duplicates in linux, and xdg-open works well in termux for preview
Be sure to enable allow-external-apps in
~/.termux/termux.properties
I sure there are more user-friendly way to do this but this works 100%
With fdupes
Counter-question: why is this even a thing? Why do people care about “duplicate files” so much? Like, what exactly are y’all doing that’s creating all these duplicates?
It happens when you save interesting memes from time to time and forget that you already saved some of them a few weeks ago. Google Files helped me spot many of those duplicates.
… but why would you save them? What do you do with them afterwards? Do you also backup and archive them, or do you normally delete them after some time?
At this point I have over 20 gigs of cat pictures from over 5 years. The only ones I delete are duplicates.
