Episode 75: An Ancient Flame

Last we left off: Bells Hells, in seeking answers to the strange history of Ashton and the unique ties it seems to have with some of the ancient history of Exandria, and hopefully finding some means of preparing for an eventual showdown with the enemies that walk the red moon.
You head to the Shattered Teeth. You traversed the sea in a ghost ship. You went to the island of Kalutha. You trekked through the jungles and eventually found Evontra’vir, the Great Tree of Atrophy, at the bottom of a massive chasm surrounded by massive mountains.
There as you slunk into the lightless expanse, you met the ancient Gau Drashari-turned-death tree that sits between the realms of life and the beyond. You asked a bit about your history in the Hishari and learned that within you lies the dormant shard of Ka’Mort, the empress primordial earth titan. But there exists still, not too far from here, on another island in the Shattered Teeth, another remaining vestigial shard of the other Primordial Titan that was destroyed in the destruction of Domunas that created the islands of the Shattered Teeth.
Upon given direction of where this was, inquiring as to possible futures and possible failures, through some visions and discussions, your time was cut short as the tree took notice of an invisible, floating, spying arcane orb. Upon shattering it, it opened a pathway to the mountaintop of which this shard is supposedly found, and sent you onto the next leg of your journey with haste.
As you all stepped through, emerging from a leafless tree on the opposite end, you all find yourself standing on a cold, snow-covered mountaintop. As the peak divides into two different rising spires, the tallest one obscured by clouds above the snowfall, rather thick as it falls upon your not well-prepared forms, the cold chilling through you instantaneously, you glance about in the vicinity with your limited vision and can see that at the taller of the spires, around its base, there’s an area in which the snow does not seem to set, but instead melt.
You can see a bit of green, and some shadow that is casting heavy into a small, low-slung cavern entrance.

I’m excited, they’re getting rolling towards big things again with a bit more pushing from Matt. Very excited to see what happens with Ashton, finally getting some good bits about their backstory.

Agreed, it’s felt a bit aimless for a while but that could just be me not keeping track of things well.

00:27:43, after the skull fell from the opening near Fearne’s bat form, and Matt is saying they’l have to do some rolling. He’s using a very calming zen tone, but it sounds ominous like that evil pink teacher from the Harry Potter series.

Chetney’s track suit having ‘JUICY’ on the butt is a great detail and if I can’t find fan art for it, by gods, I’ll make some.

This episode’s battle adds to my suspicions that Matt has “taken off the training wheels” in this season. He was able to use the map to escape just out of reach with the Ludinus simulacrum successfully for most of the fight. The statement about learning at the end of the fight has two important facets. Matt as Ludinus learning his enemies’ capabilities, and the Hells learning his. Can’t accuse players of meta gaming if you give them all the details they need, *temple tap.

I’m seeing some discussion about Matt not needing to roll for his counterspell and I’m gonna agree with the Rule of Cool to give that moment to the players. Plus Marisha is totally, like, the DM’s crush and gets bonus plot armor, doncha know?

Since Sam’s flask was a repeat of the “Me Poop” from a previous episode, here is another goofy teeth pic.

I tell you whut, Bobby. That Laura is quick with the pocket sand. Except in this case the sand is lava being launched via telekinesis.

Big Fanart moment just before the 2 hour mark when Fearne dives after Ashton into the lava. A flowery Satyr encased in a translucent sphere of blue flame and ol’ Rocky boi glowing hot bursting out of the lava pool. So Hot Right Now.

Orym’s multiple pushing strikes reminded me of that old Super Mario trick where you keep landing on the same shell until you get extra lives. Good times.
