      The issue might be neurological atrophy after decades of missing an eye, which would require a lot more than a replacement to remedy.

        But if they did put in an eye, even if it didn’t work at first, it’s very possible the part that atrophied would gradually redevelop. I’m pretty sure that exact scenario has already happened IRL for a lot of deaf people
