    In case you’re being serious:

A tankie is a leftist/communist who thinks “send in the tanks” is a valid and viable strategy for political disagreement (see tiananmen square)

A terf is a Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist, basically a transphobe who either is pretending to care about women’s issues to hurt us, or has been traumatised by some past event and is taking it out on us

      A tankie is a leftist/communist

No, they like to claim they are communists, in the same way Hitler claimed to be a socialist, and the Kim family claim to be republicans for peoples’ democracy.

      Tankies are authoritarians.

Communism is inherently incompatible with authoritarianism.

I’m curious if you’ve followed the sources on that article. There’s a few that are decent, but a good chunk of them are further articles and opinion pieces written by socdems and establishment liberals, which probably isn’t the best thing for a trans instance that heavily pushes socialism, anarchism, and communism.

My experience with tankies online is more that they hate the West so much that they somehow think that all enemies of the West are good.

Examples: blaming Ukraine war on NATO, saying China is not all that bad.

      Checkout hexbear.net for examples

9/11 is a bad day to be browsing Hexbear.

Or I guess a good one of you want to see just how fucked up the morality is.

I don’t know what sort of person could be an active Lemmy user, on the Blahaj instance no less, and not ever have encountered tankies or terfs. Frankly I’m jealous

It’s probably worth saying that these days “Terf” tends to get used for anyone that’s anti-trans, regardless if they are identifying as feminist or not.

I agree, it was more commenting on how it has become a bit of a catchall term. Feminist or not, they’re all a bunch of wankers either way.

Tankies are only a huge problem online. I have yet to meet one irl. Probably because they don’t actually go outside.

A tankie is someone from the military, while a terf is kind of like a working class dwarf.

    You’re welcome! /s

A Terf is this plastic pistols toy throwing foam darts. I guess a Tankie is like a tank top 🤷‍♂️

Have a poke around the Lemmygrad instance, or meanwhileongrad for an idea of what they’re about.

TERFs are “trans exclusionary radical feminists”. Basically it means people who are feminist but transphobic. They advocate for women’s rights but view trans women as men invading women’s spaces.

Not quite. TERFs regularly team up with groups trying to dismantle women’s rights to attack trans people. Their transphobia often uses misogyny as a blueprint (for example, attacking trans women for not meeting some kind of vague feminine beauty standard or defining womanhood purely by the ability to give birth). They’re feminists in name only.
