This is a stretch. I saw the video, and he just misspeaks by saying “country” instead of “company”, but it’s clear that he understands it’sa company. He says he’ll place tariffs on their toys, not the “country of Mattel”

    Was he ever cognitively there?

If it were not for his mental decline, he would not have gained the populist support of so many uneducated or uninformed people. Back when Trump was young and sharp the average New Yorker couldn’t stand him.

Years ago he was smart, fast, crooked, and completely devoid of ethics or morals. He has an instinct for self-preservation equaled only by New York City’s most vicious, flesh-eating rats. Those traits were imparted by a ruthless father and honed by a cold-blooded mentor.

But time has the final word, and J. D. Vance is waiting in the wings like a pudgy undertaker with a bereaved expression on his face and a twinkle in his eye.

He kept talking about Hannibal Lecter because someone mentioned asylum for immigrants, and the only “asylum” he knows is an insane asylum.

So he started talking about Hannibal Lecter every time he mentioned immigrants, equating them with insane cannibals who want to eat you.

Hillary won the popular vote, so the “you’re too misogynistic to elect a woman” take does not have a basis in reality. Also, you might have noticed that AOC is filling football stadiums in red states just by being willing to speak.

Kamala lost because people got poorer for four years under Biden and she very publicly affirmed she’d change nothing about his policies. Hell, she didn’t even put a platform on her website until two weeks before the election. Kamala was a legitimately bad candidate.

Well I think the problem is people perceived others as getting poorer or worse off but the economy was humming just fine and unemployment reached record low numbers iirc.

Like, in general terms, people did not get poorer for four years under Biden - but if that’s what people think, regardless of the actual truth, that’s what they’ll act on.

Even worse, the perceived suffering was largely because inflations… caused by Trump’s Tariffs and indiscriminate covid spending (essentially supply side, handing out money to businesses big enough to handle the paperwork vs demand side)

If Hillary or Kamala had been men they would have won. If Kamala had been white I don’t think that would have been enough to get her elected.

But if Kamala had more than a hundred days to campaign, then she might have had a fair shot.

Hillary won the popular vote, so arguing for misogyny in her case isn’t a reasonable argument. As for Kamala, no. She’d have lost if she had a penis too. Her campaign was a comedy of errors and she knew it. She was even caught on hot mic once expressing worry about her campaign’s ability to connect with young men. (Admittedly a tough thing to accomplish when you tell people you won’t change anything and young men are struggling economically and lack access to basic necessities in your country.)

The only way the Dems had a shot here was to hold a primary and actually select a seasoned, authentic candidate. Instead, they rigged it like they always do and just happened to pick someone extremely weak.

The fact that she won the popular vote but lost the election proves my point. All the places she marginally lost in would very likely have swung to marginally won if she wasn’t a woman. The hate we see rampant today was rampant then too, it just hadn’t been given a voice or a face yet.

That’s how the Republicans won that election, they realized there was just enough hate in just the right places to swing it in their favor. They just had to fan the flames.

              No, it really doesn’t.

Hillary just ignoring the Rust Belt during her campaign had nothing to do with it. Totally.

The lesson here isn’t that there’s too much hate in America. It’s that the Democrats really need to stop rigging primaries for weak candidates. Their focus needs to be on the economy and the poor, not propping up people’s egos.

On October 18, 2016, less than a month before the Presidential election, FBI head James Comey decided to reopen the Buttery Males investigation. Male or female, that maneuver blew the campaign out of the water. If Trump learned anything from Roy Cohn, it was to win at any cost. https://youtu.be/mYMA3-ET4Ow?t=113 (I’m new, if YT links to PBS content aren’t permitted I’ll take it down)

I was with you until the end. People didn’t get poorer under Biden, the Dems just did a terrible job of promoting the fact that our economy was literally the strongest in the world, and stronger than it had been in decades.

Kamala didn’t lose for any other reason than the MAGA Nazis cheated in multiple ways, and EVERYONE knows it.

IF there is another election (I doubt it), the next Democratic candidate needs to run on six issues - Harsh punishment for HitlerPig and his henchmen, declaring MAGA a terrorist hate group and purging it from society, rebuilding the government back to its former glory, completely re-writing the tax code to favor workers and HEAVILY tax the wealthy, and Medicare 4 All.

Anyone who says that we have to run on something other than not being HitlerPig instantly loses my vote. Prosecuting and punishing HitlerPig is literally the only issue in front of us. Without that, America can never move forward. HitlerPig and MAGA must be crushed and purged mercilessly.

Let’s just imagine if Biden had said something like that. Or if Obama did it (whilst wearing a tan suit for extra fake rage). The us media would’ve been shouting about it and there’d be TV shows about it. Oppositional politicians would’ve been demanding impeach this and impeach that etc etc etc…

But, oh, it’s tRUMP who may have misspoke? Oh, well, he’s done much worse so let’s give him a pass, shall we? How about this…NO.
That fat, dumb, racist, rapist, orange cunt gets no pass, ever.

It’s the small passes over the years that have had no consequences for him that have allowed him to move to bigger and bigger stuff to the big horrible shit that he’s doing now. And has been doing for decades.

I kinda agree. I think the much bigger story would be the fact that he’s threatening a singular company with a specific tariff of they don’t do what he likes. I don’t even think that’s legal, especially without congressional approval tho I could be wrong. In any case if we start going down the road of picking and choosing which specific companies get to have tariffs or not we are going to fly so fast down the slippery slope of corruption my ass will break the sound barrier

I think the difference between a very bad day and mentally impaired is a lot wider than you speculate.
