TL;DR: The CyberTruck is 17 times more likely to have a fire fatality than a Ford Pinto.

This headline reminded me that Mitch “Turtle” McConnell’s sister-in-law drowned in a Tesla in Feburary.

Ah yes, this old article from February, that included the Las Vegas Fireworks explosion in their calculation of exploding CyberTrucks!

    Great journalism.

That incident is so still super weird to me. The dude was supposedly an ordnance expert but his plan revolved around what I can only describe as cartoon logic- “fireworks and electric car batteries exolode, so I’ll mix the two together to make a super explosion !” My initial thought was he wanted the spectacle more than actually harming people but his writings seemed to contradict that. Maybe he just went off the deep end and was living in a delusion but anyone who knows anything about how explosions work could have told you that his plan had essentially zero chance of working as intended. If he were just a normal guy that would be one thing but again he was supposedly an active duty ordnance expert. I don’t think there’s any kind of conspiracy or anything I just don’t understand what happened.

Wait, you mean I have to manually activate a series of levers, linkages and mechanism?
      Outrageous!

I do concede this vital functionality should be in a quick-access menu for ease of access, on the “additional” page of the “traditional controls” submenu in the “car functions” dashboard.

Perhaps we should first make the user enable “legacy” mode in the settings which can only be done by tapping the firmware version number 10 times. But they can press too quickly, we need to make sure it was intentional.

We also must also reset this when the car is turned off in order to ensure our customers aren’t confused.

        Also it voids the warranty…

I’m curious how explosive it is compared to the Ford Exploder personally, that’s a more direct comparison of vehicle type. And those were rolling over and exploding all over the place much more recently than the Pinto back in the 70s.
