Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said Friday that every American should be concerned about “chilling” suggestions from President Donald Trump’s top border adviser that he could be arrested over guidance the Democrat issued to state employees about what to do if confronted by federal immigration agents.

“I’m not afraid,” Evers said in the extraordinary video posted on YouTube. “I’ve never once been discouraged from doing the right thing and I will not start today.”

At issue is guidance Evers’ administration issued last month in response to state workers who asked what they should do if agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement show up at their offices.

Evers’ guidance advised them to contact an attorney immediately and ask the officers to return if an attorney is unavailable. The memo also advises state workers not to turn over paper files or give ICE officers access to computers without first consulting the state agency’s attorney and not to answer questions from the agents.

This is what governors and agency heads should be doing. Complying in advance only encourages the bully.

That just seems like good advice for any law enforcement interaction. If that is grounds for arrest, we’ve fallen even farther than I thought already and I thought we’d fallen pretty far.

That’s the limit of the Regime. They can make meaningless threats or go after vulnerable people. Fascists don’t pick fights they can’t win or at least face no consequences.

Sooner or later, fascists try to invade Russia. It doesn’t go well after that. As much as they run their mouth off about strength and alpha male bullshit, they are shockingly bad at actual fights against anyone in their weight class.

Fascists have successfully couped Russia and have been waging semi-successful wars of conquest for the past 30 years.

Not against their weight class. In fact, Ukraine is a notch below Russia’s weight class, and they stopped Russia from reaching Kyiv before any significant western supplies started to arrive.

I wonder how many of them are intentionally stupid. This isn’t their war. Some of them know it’s wrong.

The ruling class always underestimates the value of good will from the working class.

“Intention” is a strange word to use here. The generals who were stealing and reselling military supplies weren’t doing it accidentally, but they might not have expected the impact it would have.

Metaphorically. Not that I particularly liked the regime in Russia at the time either, but the important point is that invading them was when Nazis came to the intersection of Fuck Around and Find Out.

Evers definitely one of the few good ones still out there. No idea how you elected Scott Walker and then found this guy. Wisconsin is a land of contrasts.

I mean, go ahead, arrest all democratic governors. More supporting evidence for asylum claims.

Maybe California would finally become a republic, and perhaps become the new “beacon of freedom” (well it was better than the last “beacon of freedom” anyways)

Theoretically, if this happened, what exactly would happen to folks like me born and raised in California but living out of state?

I assume it would be both jus soli and jus sanguinis

If you a born there, you were a Californian Citizen.

If you were there when they declare independendence, you were a Citizen (similar to the US Constitution, where everyone became citizen of the US if they were in tge 13 colonies at the moment it came into force, even if they just arrived from England).

If weren’t there when they ratify the New Californian Republic Constitution, and you weren’t born there, and you don’t have parent’s born there, then you’d probabaly not be a citizen.

They’ll probably also look at CA state tax record and might give citizenship if you’ve lived there for X amount of years preceeding the ratification of the Californian Constitution.

I think its also possible California doesn’t become an independent country, but form a different “United States” with other Blue states.
